A story for every victim

Ruben Dario Sanchez, 84

Ruben Dario Sanchez, an 84-year-old Latino man, was discovered dead Monday, Nov. 18, in the 1800 block of West Glenoaks Boulevard in Glendale, according to the L.A. County coroner’s office.

Sanchez was discovered by a nephew in his apartment, said coroner’s spokesman Ed Winter.

Police received a call about 5:30 a.m. from a person who said their grandfather may have suffered a gunshot wound and was bleeding profusely inside his apartment, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz told the Glendale News-Press.

Police arrived and found that Sanchez had been beaten in what they initially thought was a burglary.  Sanchez lived alone on the first floor of the building and his family lives on the second floor.

Sanchez was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:33 a.m., said coroner’s spokesman Ed Winter.

One day later, James Adrian Sanchez, 21, was arrested on suspicion of killing Ruben Sanchez. Police said he is related to Ruben Sanchez but would not specify how. He has been charged with one count of murder and is expected to be arraigned Nov. 21, according to the L.A. County district attorney’s office.

Sanchez is being held without bail.

This is the first homicide in Glendale since Sept. 30, 2011, when Antonio Tafolla, 35, was shot and killed by Glendale police.
