Sambo Chhoy, 33

Sambo Chhoy, a 33-year-old Cambodian man, was shot and killed Monday, Jan. 20 in the 1000 block of East New York Street in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 9:55 p.m., Long Beach police responded to a report of shots being fired in the area. When officers arrived, they found Chhoy in the street.

Chhoy was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:13 p.m., said Ed Winter, a spokesman with the coroner’s office.

An autopsy showed that Chhoy died of a gunshot wound to the chest, Winter said.

Chhoy is the first homicide reported for 2014 in the city of Long Beach, said Nancy Pratt, a spokeswoman for the department.
