San Gabriel gang member sentenced to 50 years to life for Alhambra shooting

A San Gabriel gang member was sentenced Dec. 1 to 50 years to life in state prison for fatally shooting a man in his Alhambra garage in 2013, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

A jury on Oct. 22 found Xia Lin, a 28-year-old Asian man, guilty of first-degree murder in the  killing Qui Jin Fang, 43. Jurors also found true gun and gang allegations.

The prosecutors said Fang was sitting his car when Lin approached. Lin, a gang member affiliated with Bamboo United, fired several times. Fang was pronounced dead at the scene, according to coroner’s records.

One of Fang's neighbors saw Lin leaving the home and called police.

Lin walked to a movie theater where he discarded a fanny pack that held the murder weapon, a .22 caliber gun with a silencer, and ammunition, according to court testimony.

A woman leaving the theater picked up the fanny pack. She later saw Lin looking for the pack and called police.

Lin was about to leave in a white Mercedes when law enforcement approached the car. Officers found clothing matching the description of the person who shot Fang and arrested Lin.
