A story for every victim

Sandra Lus Valadez, 32

Sandra Lus Valadez, a 32-year-old Latina, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, after she was shot in the 400 block of West Olive Street in Inglewood, according to coroner’s records.

Valadez’s husband of 13 years has been charged with murder, criminal threats and child abuse in connection with her death, with the special allegation that he used a firearm in all three counts.

Andy Steve Valdez, also known as Andy Valadez, is accused of shooting his wife in the head multiple times inside their home, in the presence of their children, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

The family lived in a house behind the home of Sandra Valadez’s family, the news release said. Prosecutors say the victim’s 63-year-old aunt ran into the residence when she heard shooting and struggled with Valdez for his gun, as he allegedly threatened his children.

Andy Valdez, a 34-year-old Latino, pleaded not guilty to the charges during his arraignment on Nov. 30, according to spokeswoman Jane Robison of the district attorney’s office.

He is being held in jail in lieu of paying $2.15 million bail. His next court date is Jan. 7, 2016, in Department 5 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Inglewood Branch, Robison said.
