Terri Kwan Smith, a 42-year-old black woman, was shot and killed Monday, April 14, in the 5700 block of South 9th Avenue in Hyde Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Smith lived in a transitional housing residence with her 11-year-old daughter and 20-month-old son, said LAPD Det. Chris Barling. At least six other adults lived in the house, he said.

Smith was involved in a weeklong disagreement with one of her the roommates, Kenneth Theodrick Parks, a 55-year-old black man, over a $10 Internet service payment.

Her 40-year-old boyfriend was also wounded and taken to a hospital, where he was in stable condition, police said.

Parks was charged April 16 with one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder, police said.
