A story for every victim

Tricia Lynn Metropoulos, 54

Tricia Lynn Metropoulos, a 54-year-old white woman, was killed Saturday, Sept. 19, when she was struck in the head with a bat in the 18000 block of Victory Boulevard in Reseda, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

The incident was triggered by a dispute between Metropoulos and her son's girlfriend, Los Angeles Police Sgt. James Harper told the L.A. Times.

The girlfriend, Cecelia Bonnie Sharkey, a 26-year-old white woman, was charged with capital murder on Sept. 22, with the special allegation that she laid in wait for Metropoulos and used a baseball bat as a deadly and dangerous weapon, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.

Harper told The Times that at least three people witnessed Sharkey attack Metropoulos with a baseball bat.

Metropoulos was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 11:34 a.m., according to coroner's records.

Sharkey was arrested on suspicion of murder about 4 p.m. at her home in the 1200 block of South Citrus Avenue in Mid-Wilshire, Harper said.

She is being held in jail in lieu of paying $1-million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Oct. 5 in Department 100 of the Van Nuys Branch of the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

The Times reported that Sharkey is the daughter of the late actor Ray Sharkey. She was 4 when her father died in a Brooklyn hospital in 1993.
