Tesha Contreras, 32 [Updated]

Tesha Contreras, a 32-year-old Latina, was shot and killed Saturday, Nov. 13, in the 900 block of Gastine Street in an unincorporated area of Torrance known as West Carson, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities responding to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon Nov. 12 about 10:25 p.m. found Contreras inside a house with a gunshot wound to her upper torso, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Contreras was taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, officials said.

Detectives detained a 30-year-old man at the house, and the suspected murder weapon was recovered at the scene, officials said.

Lt. Mike Rosson said investigators are working with the Los Angeles County district attorney's office and expect to brings charges against the man sometime this week.

[Update Nov. 17: According to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office, Tesha Contreras' husband, David Contreras, a 33-year-old Latino, has been charged with one count of murder. He is currently being held in lieu of $2-million at the Men's Central Jail in downtown. His next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 2 at the Compton Superior Court.]

Coroner's officials later corrected the spelling of both names. A family member who contacted The Times said she used the last name Gutierrez.]
