A story for every victim

Wesley Alex Morejon, 30

Wesley Alex Morejon, a 30-year-old Latino, was fatally stabbed Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, in the 8900 block of South Vermont Avenue in Vermont Vista, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Morejon was standing in the parking lot of a restaurant when a man walked up to him and stabbed him, according to coroner’s records. The assailant ran away from the scene.

Morejon was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:21 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Investigators later determined that Morejon got into a fight before the stabbing. Morejon knew the suspect, identified by authorities as David Carrillo, 33, through a substance abuse program they both attended, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.

Carrillo was arrested on suspicion of murder about two weeks after the stabbing, after he barricaded himself inside a Santa Monica apartment for nearly five hours, prosecutors said.

A jury in May found Carrillo guilty of one count of second-degree murder with the allegation that he used a knife.

Carrillo was sentenced Aug. 6 to 16 years to life in prison for the killing.
