William Clay Settle, 22

William Clay Settle, a 22-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, Aug. 13, in the 1700 block of East Avenue J-4 in Lancaster, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies found Settle lying on a walkway outside some apartments about 1:30 a.m. after they received a call about gunshots in the area, said Lt. Steve Jauch. 

Settle was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:35 a.m. with multiple gunshot wounds, according to coroner’s records. 

Jauch said Settle lived in another part of Lancaster, and investigators don’t know why he was at the apartment complex or what he was doing prior to the shooting, 

Nobody has reported seeing the shooting, Jauch said, and investigators have no description of the gunman.
