Willie Thornton, 59

Willie Thornton, a 59-year-old black man, was shot and killed Friday, Aug. 12, in the 3000 block of West Exposition Place in Leimert Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Police responding to a report of a traffic accident found Thornton wounded in a car about 5 a.m., authorities said.

The victim was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, said Los Angeles Police Officer Greg Baek.

Coroner's records show Thornton died from a gunshot wound to the head.
