Woman ordered to stand trial in mother's killing

A 25-year-old Woodland Hills woman was ordered to stand trial this week in the fatal shooting of her mother, according to the L.A. County district attorney’s office.

Laura L. Purviance, 25, will be arraigned Feb. 18 on one count of murder with a special circumstance allegation of lying in wait, prosecutors said.

Superior Court Judge Michael Kellogg ruled Tuesday there was enough evidence to proceed with the case.

The arraignment will take place in Department E of the Van Nuys branch of the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

The special circumstance allegation gives prosecutors the option to seek the death penalty. Prosecutors will decide at a later time whether to do so.
