Yolanda Major, 27

Yolanda Major, a 27-year-old Latina, was fatally wounded Tuesday, July 2, in the 10900 block of South Hobart Boulevard in Westmont, according to L.A. County coroner's records.

About 10 p.m., Major stopped her car on the street when she saw a friend, according to a release from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department. She was talking to a 30-year-old man when a someone began shooting from another vehicle.

Major was struck in the head and died at the scene at 10:59 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

The man was taken to a hospital and treated. Major’s 2-year-old toddler was in the car along with another friend. The two were not injured, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

The vehicle that the gunman shot from is described as a white Dodge station wagon.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked  to call the Sheriff’s Department homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
