A story for every victim

Yue Zhao, 56

Yue Zhao, a 56-year-old Chinese man, was shot and killed Sunday, May 31, in the 1000 block of South 5th Avenue in Arcadia, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Zhao was walking south on South 5th about 9 a.m. when a white sedan pulled up behind him and the driver opened fire, said Lt. Tom Cullen of the Arcadia Police Department.

When Zhao tried to run away, the driver exited the car and fired several more shots at him.

Security cameras from nearby homes captured the incident, Cullen said. Zhao, who suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:47 a.m., said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.

Police are still searching for suspects and have not identified a motive or any gang connection, Cullen said.

Anyone with information can call the Arcadia Police Department at (626) 574-5150. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
