Yuvini Cortez, 37

Yuvini Cortez, a 37-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, Feb. 12, in the 2000 block of Argyle Avenue in Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Cortez was working about 2:30 p.m. as a maintenance worker at an apartment complex when he was shot, said Los Angeles Police Det. Sean Kinchla.

Cortez was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:44 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

The gunman was described as a Latino, about 30 years old, wearing a blue jacket and brown pants, according to police.

On Feb. 15, authorities arrested Gregory Baranovsky, a 39-year-old white man, on suspicion of murder, according to a news release from the LAPD.

Police think Baranovsky was committing a burglary when he shot and killed Cortez.

Baranovsky has been charged with one count of murder with the allegations that he shot a handgun and committed a murder during the commission of a burglary, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office. He is due in court March 5 for an arraignment, according to online court records.
