Jenell Gamble-Kendrick, a 73-year-old black woman, was shot and killed Tuesday, Feb. 14, in the 1700 block of West 60th Street in Harvard Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
About 7 p.m., Gamble-Kendrick got into an argument with her husband, said Los Angeles Police Det. Nathan Kouri.
The fight escalated, and Gamble-Kendrick began hitting her husband with her cane, Kouri said.
Her husband, identified by police as Carven Nathaniel Kendrick, became frustrated, went into the bedroom to retrieve his shotgun, then shot his wife in their living room, a few feet away from a bouquet of red roses, Kouri said.
Kendrick then walked to a relative’s home and told the relative that he had just shot his wife. He stayed at the scene until police arrived, Kouri said.
Gamble-Kendrick was pronounced dead at the scene.

Christopher Ray Woods, a 23-year-old black man, was fatally shot Sunday, Feb. 12, in the 1100 block of East 10th Street in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
At about 3:30 a.m., Long Beach police were dispatched to a call about gunshots, according to a news release. They found Woods in a vehicle with gunshot wounds to the chest.
He was pronounced dead at 3:41 a.m. at the scene, according to coroner’s records.

Maurice McKinzy, a 45-year-old black man, was shot and killed Wednesday, Feb. 1, in the 7500 block of South Main Street in Florence, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 10:30 p.m., McKinzy had just finished visiting friends in the area and was walking to his car when he was approached by at least one person, said Los Angeles Police Det. Eric Crosson.
The person opened fire, striking McKinzy, Crosson said.
McKinzy was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:54 p.m, according to coroner’s records.
Police believe the shooter was accompanied by other people, but at this point it looks like only one person opened fire.
Detectives are still trying to determine a motive for the shooting. McKinzy was not a gang member, Crosson said.

Solomon Picart, a 37-year-old black man, was fatally shot by Los Angeles police officers Tuesday, Jan. 31, in the 6400 block of Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 2 p.m., a bicyclist was stabbed along the north side of Sunset Boulevard near Ivar Avenue, said LAPD Sgt. Frank Preciado, a spokesman for the department.
The assailant ran along Sunset Boulevard and tried to get into a coffee shop, but employees held the door shut, Preciado said.
The man, later identified as Picart, then walked into the Jack in the Box on Sunset.
He stabbed a second person, Preciado said. As the second victim ran away, police officers rushed inside. Picart then knifed a third person.

Terrell Butler, a 27-year-old black man, was stabbed to death Sunday, Jan. 29, in the 13000 block of Dronfield Avenue in Sylmar, according to the Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles County coroner's records.
About 5 p.m., a man identified by police as David Bird, a 20-year-old white man, went into an apartment complex and saw Butler there visiting with the mother of his child, said LAPD Det. Steve Castro.
Bird and Butler argued, then fought. Police believe Bird had a knife and stabbed Butler multiple times before fleeing.
Butler was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:48 p.m.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Bird, police said, but he has not been found yet. He was on parole for an assault-with-a-deadly-weapon conviction.

Robert Lee Hayes, a 50-year-old black man, was found with stab wounds Friday, Jan. 27, in the 600 block of Gladys Avenue in downtown Los Angeles, according to L.A. County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 8:45 a.m., a person in the area noticed that Hayes was motionless inside the tent where he usually slept, said Los Angeles Police Det. Doug Pierce.
The person called authorities who discovered that Hayes had a stab wound to the chest. Hayes was pronounced dead at 8:45 a.m.
Police believe Hayes was stabbed in a different location because they didn’t observe any signs of a struggle inside the tent, Pierce said.
Authorities are looking for additional witnesses.

Kenyond Brown, a 40-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, Jan. 21 in the 2500 block of Hyde Park Boulevard in Hyde Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 1:14 p.m., Brown was riding his bike east on Hyde Park Boulevard, said Los Angeles Police Det. Dave Garrido. A dark-colored sedan going in the same direction approached and either one person or more than one person inside began shooting, Garrido said.
Brown was pronounced dead at the scene. Coroner’s records show he died of multiple gunshot wounds.
The sedan fled east and out of view. Police are looking for witnesses.

Aaron Joshua Holt, a 28-year-old black man, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, after he was shot on the 110 Freeway between the Sepulveda Boulevard and 223rd Street exits in West Carson, according to Los Angeles County authorities.
Holt, a single father of two, was a front-seat passenger in a car heading north on the 110 on Jan. 20, when someone began shooting into the car shortly after 7 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s homicide Det. Dean Camarillo.
Investigators believe the shooter was in another vehicle, but “this is just preliminary information,” Camarillo said, “Nothing has been confirmed. It’s not like this is your typical crime scene.”

Kenia Buckner, a 31-year-old black woman, was shot and killed Monday, Jan. 16, in the 16200 block of Cornuta Avenue in Bellflower, according to Los Angeles County authorities.
Buckner was home with her three children around 1:35 p.m. when her ex-boyfriend, the children’s father, walked into her apartment, said sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza.
“In front of their children, in their living room, he pulls out a gun and fires toward the victim multiple times, striking her at least one time in upper torso,” Mendoza said.

Natroy Deshawn Brown, a 32-year-old black man, was shot and killed on Monday, Jan. 16, at the corner of West Imperial Highway and Grevillea Avenue in Hawthorne, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
A passerby flagged down Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies about 6:42 p.m., saying there was a man lying in the busy commercial intersection, said Lt. Joe Mendoza.
When the deputies found the man, later identified as Brown, he was unconscious, with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso, Mendoza said.

Corin Michella Hensley, a 25-year-old black woman, was shot to death Friday, Jan. 13, in the 2200 block of Larchmont Street in Pomona, according to coroner’s records.
About 11 a.m., Pomona police responded to a call about a shooting, Sgt. Brian Hagerty said. The officers saw a sedan in a frontyard, and Hensley and Lavelle Deshawn Brown, 34, were inside with multiple gunshot wounds, Hagerty said.
Hensley was pronounced dead at 11:29 a.m., and Brown was declared dead a few minutes later, according to coroner’s records.
Hagerty said Brown was driving the vehicle near the intersection of Larchmont Street and Collingswood Drive when a dark-colored sedan pulled alongside.
