Anthony James Willis, a 35-year-old white man, was pronounced dead on Thursday, March 2, after his body was found near mile marker 18.87 of the Angeles Forest Highway in the Angeles National Forest, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Investigators believe Willis was killed elsewhere and his body dumped off the highway a short time before it was found, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza.
Willis lived in Palmdale, Mendoza said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:21 p.m.
A passerby found the body about 30 feet off the highway, Mendoza said, and reported it to deputies at 12:49 p.m.
The body was found near the highway’s junction with Big Tujunga Road, according to Ed Winter, the coroner’s assistant chief of operations.

Whittier Police Officer Keith Boyer, a 53-year-old white man, was shot and killed on Monday, Feb. 20, at the intersection of Colima Road and Mar Vista Street in Whittier, according to authorities.
Boyer and two other officers were called to the scene to investigate a traffic collision about 8 a.m. when one of the drivers in the accident pulled out a gun and began shooting, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. John Corina told The Times.
The officers returned fire and three people were struck, including Christopher Michael Mejia, 26, a felon investigators would later learn was a suspect in the fatal shooting of his cousin earlier that morning in East Los Angeles.
Both Mejia and Patrick Hazell, a Whittier officer with three years on the force, were injured and taken to the hospital with injuries they are expected to survive.

Fabio Sementilli, a 49-year-old white man, was found fatally stabbed Monday, Jan. 23, in the 5000 block of Queen Victoria Road in Woodland Hills, according to police and Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 5 p.m., officers responded to a medical emergency call and found Sementilli on his patio “with injuries to his face and significant blood,” said Officer Liliana Preciado, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department.
Sementilli had sustained numerous stab wounds to his neck and upper torso, according to police. He was unconscious and not breathing when authorities arrived and was pronounced dead at the scene, Preciado said.
Sementilli’s car, a black 2008 Porsche Carrera 911, was missing, Preciado said. The vehicle had paper plates. Police later found the vehicle, and the case remains under investigation.

Michael Yonko, a 46-year-old white man, died Thursday, Jan. 19, a week after he was beaten near West Sixth Street and South Vermont Avenue in Koreatown, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 12, Yonko was sitting in a chair in a parking lot when a person described as a black man with bulky clothing walked up behind him and assaulted him with a baseball bat, said Los Angeles Police Det. John Lamberti.
Yonko was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:09 a.m. on Jan. 19, according to coroner’s records.
Yonko was a homeless man who frequented the area, Lamberti said.

Ovik Oganesyan, a 50-year-old Armenian man, was shot and killed Wednesday, Jan. 18, in the 12400 block of Venice Boulevard in Mar Vista, according to police and Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 11:30 a.m., witnesses saw a man and woman wearing dark hooded sweatshirts, walk into a marijuana dispensary. Minutes later, gunshots were heard, said Los Angeles Police Lt. John Radtke.
Police responded and found a wounded Oganesyan inside the dispensary. Police believe Oganesyan was working there and had been robbed, Radtke said.
Oganesyan was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:05 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
So far, police don’t have a description of a suspect.
“We’re hopeful that we’ll get into video, but we don’t have that yet,” Radtke said.

Eric David Anderson, a 48-year-old white man, died on Sunday, Jan. 15, after he was shot by a police officer near Ranch Road, in the 200 block of Windsong Court in Azusa, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Azusa police were called after residents reported hearing gunshots about 11 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza.
Moments later, the police department also received a call from a woman saying her husband — later identified as Anderson — had a gun and was behaving erratically, Mendoza said.
When officers arrived, Anderson’s wife met them on Ranch Road, just a few steps from the end of Windsong Court, a small street in the condominium complex where the couple lived.

Michael Dwaine Rogers, a 32-year-old white man, was fatally shot by Los Angeles police Tuesday, Jan. 10, in the 1100 block of South Hope Street downtown, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 5 p.m., a security guard saw Rogers, armed with a kitchen knife, try to carjack an L.A. City Department of Transportation officer, but the officer was able to fend him off, police said.
The transportation officer waved down two LAPD traffic officers, who confronted Rogers on South Hope Street between 11th and 12th streets.
Rogers lunged at the driver’s side of the police cruiser with the knife, police said. The officer at the wheel sped forward and made a U-turn, but Rogers entered a nearby exercise studio, frightening customers who scrambled to get away. Rogers then exited the business and was confronted by officers.

Nickolas William Clouse, a 33-year-old white man, was shot and killed Sunday, Dec. 25, in the 10800 block of Redfern Avenue in the Lennox area south of Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Residents told investigators they heard multiple gunshots around 9 p.m. and that when they looked outside, they saw Clouse lying in the street, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Troy Ewing.
Clouse, who had been shot, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:46 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Witnesses said they saw two men running away from the scene but had no further description, Ewing said.
Clouse was affiliated with a gang that claims that residential area, Ewing said, and investigators believe the shooting may be gang-related.
