Franklin Murrell Rogers, a 48-year-old white man, was found dead Friday, July 8, in the 1100 block of Waterloo Street in Echo Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before noon, Rogers was strangled at a sober living home, police said. Rogers was pronounced dead at 11:47 a.m. at the scene, according to coroner’s records.
Nicholas James Bowling, a 28-year-old white man, was arrested on suspicion of murder in the slaying. Bowling and Rogers were romantically involved, police said.
Bowling pleaded not guilty to one count of murder July 12, according to court records.
Friends mourned Rogers’ violent death.
“He was a loving, gentle and kind soul,” Thomas Harris told KTLA-TV. “I know that most people would be grateful for the experience of his friendship.”

Phillip Franklin Niles Jr., a 25-year-old white man, was fatally shot Saturday, June 25, in the 1600 block of The Midway Street in Glendale, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 4 a.m., Niles was shot and ran a short distance before collapsing on the front lawn of a home, police said.
Niles, of Daytona Beach, Fla., was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:32 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
Investigators spent hours canvassing the neighborhood, searching for leads.
“They went from not knowing the victim to a complete ‘whodunit’ case to seriously putting some good work into it,” Glendale Police Sgt. Robert William said.
Hours earlier, police discovered that Niles was out with friends and met Dezerea Lyons, an 18-year-old woman, and her friend.

Curtis Gregory Draskovich, a 24-year-old white man, was shot and killed Thursday, June 23, in the 100 block of West 9th Street in San Pedro, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 2 a.m., Draskovich was walking east on West 9th Street to visit a friend when a vehicle approached, said Los Angeles Police Department Det. Julie Scruggs.
A person shot Draskovich then drove off. Police are unsure if the assailant got out of the vehicle or shot from inside the car, Scruggs said.
Draskovich was pronounced dead at 2:06 a.m. at the scene, according to coroner's records.
So far, the vehicle has been described only as a compact car, Scruggs said.

Dennis Joseph Cauterucci, a 60-year-old white man, was found dead Wednesday, June 22 in the 1800 block of South Cochran Avenue in Mid-City, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 9:30 p.m., officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Wilshire Division responded to a welfare check and found Cauterucci in a room in his condo with stab wounds, said LAPD Lt. John Radtke.
Coroner’s officials said that Cauterucci was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:13 p.m.
Radtke said that neighbors were concerned after they hadn’t seen Cauterucci walking his dog, so they called police. So far, police believe some sort of dispute occurred.
“People in the area did hear arguing,” Radtke said.

Kris Malcolm Anderson, a 57-year-old white man, died Sunday, June 12, after he was struck in the head and torso in the 1300 block of 5th Street in Santa Monica, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Anderson was found unconscious on 5th Street about 5 p.m. Saturday, June 11, with “substantial head trauma” and stab wounds, according to a news release from the Santa Monica Police Department.
He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:40 a.m., from blunt force trauma to his head and torso, and a stab wound to his face, according to coroner’s records.

Wylee Louis Pritchett, a 20-year-old white man, was shot and killed Thursday, June 9, in the 6400 block of Coronado Avenue in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 4 a.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to a shots fired call and found Pritchett and another man with gunshot wounds, according to a news release from the department.
Pritchett was pronounced dead by Long Beach firefighters a short time later, and the other man was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
Police did not offer information about a motive in the slaying, but investigators do not believe the shooting was gang-related.

Bobby Joe Salazar, a 30-year-old Latino, died Wednesday, June 2, after he was shot weeks earlier at the intersection of San Gabriel Boulevard and Walnut Grove Avenue in Rosemead, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide investigators.
Salazar was shot May 15 about 10:40 p.m., said Lt. Eddie Hernandez, while riding in the front passenger seat of a car driven by his friend. They were headed southbound on San Gabriel Boulevard when a second car pulled alongside them and the driver of that car got into a shouting match with Salazar and his friend.

Connie Annadell Cajulis, a 53-year-old white woman, was fatally stabbed Tuesday, May 24, in the 7100 block of Shadow Ridge Court in West Hills, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Cajulis’ husband came home about 5 p.m. and found her stabbed to death, said LAPD Det. Rich Wheeler. The couple’s SUV was also missing.
About an hour earlier, authorities had responded to an accident with a vehicle that matched the description of Cajulis’ vehicle.
Police said a 16-year-old who was living with the family stole the vehicle then crashed it nearby. Steven Paul Main has been charged as an adult.
