Fernando Puga, a 28-year-old Latino male, died Saturday, March 21, after being shot near 1129 N. Madison Ave. in East Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

Juan Carlos Sanchez, a 24-year-old Latino male, died Thursday, March 19, after being shot near 4615 E. Washington Blvd. in Commerce, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

Victor Elliot Gonzalez, a 36-year-old Latino male, died Thursday, March 19, after being shot near 217 W. 56th St. in South Park, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

Andrew James Pozos, a 22-year-old Latino male, died Thursday, March 19, after being stabbed near 420 E. Florence Ave. in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

Dinora Elizabeth Guillen, a 34-year-old Latino female, died Wednesday, March 18, after being shot near 6847 Corona Ave. in Bell, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

Ladonna Perry Mitchell, a 63-year-old black female, died Wednesday, March 18, after being stabbed near 39362 10th St. East in Palmdale, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

Jose Falcon, a 26-year-old Latino male, died Tuesday, March 17, after being shot near 940 S. Grande Vista Ave. in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

Viviana Ibarra Rodriguez, a 25-year-old Latino female, died Tuesday, March 17, after being shot near 600 S. Ditman Ave. in East Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

Pedro Flores Gutierrez, a 66-year-old Latino male, died Tuesday, March 17, after sustaining blunt force trauma near 1238 E. Olympic Blvd. in Downtown, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

Chelsea Joan Smith, a 27-year-old white woman, was fatally beaten and strangled Monday, March 16, in the 4600 block of Whitewood Avenue in Long Beach, according to authorities and Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

About 8:30 p.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department were called to a home regarding a potential suicide, according to a news release from police. 

While officers were on their way to the home, they were told a murder may have occurred in the back unit. 

Officers arrived and "encountered a male adult suspect," police said. The man immediately surrendered to police and was taken into custody.

Police then went into the home and found Smith on the ground. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. 

Coroner's records show Smith died of "homicidal asphyxiation." Prosecutors said that Smith was fatally beaten.

Eric Esteban Briceno, a 39-year-old Latino male, died Monday, March 16, in the 4300 block of East 58th Street in Maywood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Briceno's mother, Blanca Briceno, said she called authorities that day to help her son, who was in the midst of a mental health crisis. 

“We called them to come and help us, to get some help,” Blanca Briceno said, choking up during an interview at her Maywood home. “And instead, they came and killed him, brutally killed him.”

In an autopsy report obtained by The Times, coroner's officials concluded that Briceno died of cardiopulmonary arrest, resulting from neck compression and restraint with a Taser.

The death was ruled a homicide, but the designation doesn't mean it was intentional or a crime.
