Miles Julian Lishey, a 31-year-old black man, was shot and killed Friday, July 5, in the 9600 block of South Western Avenue in Gramercy Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 11:44 p.m., officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s 77th Division responded to a call of a shooting and found Lishey inside a smoke shop suffering from gunshot wounds, said LAPD Det. Dave Garrido.
Paramedics pronounced Lishey dead at the scene at 11:57 p.m., according to police and coroner’s records.
Lishey and another person had just left the smoke shop in a sedan and were returning to retrieve an item, Garrido said.
Lishey got out of the sedan, and as he was walking toward the front door, another vehicle pulled up and a person inside began shooting.
Lishey tried to run back to his vehicle, but collapsed. The other vehicle then fled north on South Western Avenue. …
Update: In October 2021, the Justice System Integrity Division of the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office released new information from the investigation into Rickie Starks' death. The report said Starks was likely shot by a high-powered rifle consistent with one used by Haden Taylor, one of the men involved in the shootout. In July 2020, Taylor, James Harris and Deven Littlejohn were charged with murder in Starks' death. The Homicide Report has removed Starks from the police killings database.

Julius Realista Rondez, a 70-year-old Filipino man, died Wednesday, July 3, after he was assaulted in the 400 block of East Temple Street in downtown, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
On July 2 about 4:35 p.m., Rondez was walking down the street when he was knocked to the ground in an unprovoked attack, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Rondez fell and struck his head on the pavement. He was taken to a hospital and died the next day.
Officers recognized Gerson Carrillotorres, a 22-year-old Latino, from surveillance video and arrested him on suspicion of murder. Carrillotorres was charged July 15 with one count of murder and is awaiting trial, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
The day of the attack, Rondez was supposed to go on vacation, his daughter Janice Rondez said in an interview with KTLA-TV Channel 5.

Ruben Martin Lopez Becerra, a 25-year-old Latino, died on Monday, July 1, after he was shot in the 1200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner records.
Lopez Becerra was driving south on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue around 8:40 p.m. with a friend and family member, according to Long Beach Police spokeswoman Shaunna Dandoy; a 19-year-old male in the front seat and an 18-year-old female in the rear.
Investigators believe Lopez Becerra got into an argument with a group of men who were sitting near 12th Street, and the men fired several shots toward the car, according to the department news release.
Lopez Becerra was struck in the upper torso and drove himself to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:53 p.m., according to coroner's records. The cause of death was listed as gunshot wounds.

Speaking in clear, firm voices, the jury’s six men and six women confirmed that they had reached a unanimous verdict of not guilty in the first-degree murder charge against Martinez, but deadlocked 3 to 9, with 9 in favor of acquittal, on the charge of second-degree murder.

Richard Tovalin, a 31-year-old Latino, was fatally shot on Sunday, June 30, in the 400 block of Tonopah Avenue in La Puente, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner records.
Tovalin was sitting in his parked car, talking to two friends in the driveway of a home, when a small gray or silver-colored SUV drove up around 6:30 p.m. and a man with a gun got out and opened fire, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Brandon Dean.
The gunfire struck all three men, Dean said. Tovalin was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:47 p.m., according to coroner's records The cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds.

Christopher Campbell, a 23-year-old Latino, was fatally stabbed Saturday, June 29, in the 1100 block of West 91st Street in Westmont, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's office.
Campbell was allegedly one of three men who entered a home on West 91st Street and began assaulting a 23-year-old man who lived there, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Brandon Dean.
During the assault, the victim's brother, 27, came home and "saw three individuals kicking the crap out of his brother," Dean said, "so he grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed one of the suspects."
The three attackers left, Dean said, and a short time later, deputies spotted the suspect car at West 93rd Street and Normandie Avenue, about half a mile away. Daniel Ma, a 28-year-old Latino, was fatally shot on Friday, June 28, in the 14600 block of Demblon Street in Baldwin Park, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner records.
Ma and his uncle, Gregory Thomas Kingsbury, a 37-year-old white man, got into an argument outside the family home where Ma resided and Kingsbury sometime stayed, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Brandon Dean told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.
Kingsbury allegedly shot Ma during the argument, around 10 a.m. and then fled from the scene. His gray 2012 Nissan Altima was found abandoned later that day.
Ma was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:11 a.m., according to coroner's records. The cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the right abdomen.

Foster was standing outside his workplace, the En Effect Barber Shop, eating a bowl of cereal around 10:50 a.m. when a silver-colored sedan pulled into the parking lot, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Brandon Dean.
Two men got out of the car wearing dark-colored ski masks and began firing at Foster, striking him multiple times, Dean said. The men ran back to their car and drove away, heading west on Rosecrans Avenue.
