William Brian Meeks III, a 2-year-old boy, died Sunday, June 16, 2019, two days after he suffered from blunt force trauma in the 900 block of Daisy Avenue in Long Beach, according to police.
On June 14 about 7:35 p.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to the parking lot of a liquor store for a medical emergency involving William, according to a news release from the department.
Police found the child in the arms of a good Samaritan who was trying to help him. William was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead two days later.
An autopsy performed by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office found that William died from intentional blunt force trauma to the head, police said.
On Jan. 19, detectives arrested Charles Edward Davis Jr., a 32-year-old black man, on suspicion of murder, police said.

Jose Guadalupe Vera, an 18-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, June 16, near West Anaheim Street and Island Avenue in Wilmington, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s records.
About 4:15 a.m., Vera was standing outside a bank talking on a cellphone, said Los Angeles Police Officer Jeffrey Tiffin.
A car passed him, parked nearby and a passenger got out and began shooting at him, Tiffin said.
People in the area heard gunshots and called police.
Vera was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:25 a.m., according to coroner's records.
The car, which fled west on West Anaheim Street, was described as a silver compact sedan.

Remond Deonte Lee, a 36-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, June 16, in the 1300 block of East 111th Street in Watts, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 11 p.m., Lee was standing in a parking lot in the Nickerson Gardens Housing Development when a vehicle drove by and a person inside shot at him, said Los Angeles police Det. Nathan Kouri.
Lee was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:35 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Detectives are still trying to determine a vehicle description. So far, the motive is unknown, police said.

Connie Parson was inside her Willowbrook home last Thursday when she heard fireworks. Then, she heard gunfire.
Parson’s first thought was that there was a drive-by shooting happening nearby. But when she rushed out her back door about 7:30 p.m. June 6 and peered out the back gate, she saw two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies with their guns pointed at a white car.
“The way they were shooting, you would think they were in a war with someone else,” Parson said.
Ryan Twyman, 24, was sitting in a vehicle with another person in an apartment complex parking lot near East 132nd and South San Pedro streets when deputies said they made contact with the males, according to a statement released by the department.
“During the contact, a deputy-involved shooting occurred,” the department said in the statement. It remains unclear what prompted the shooting.

Shortly after 4 p.m., Wakefield was sitting in the driver’s seat of a black sedan with a friend when a vehicle drove by and a person inside shot at them, police said.
Both men were wounded – Wakefield fatally. Police said no suspects have been identified.

A 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy have been charged in the February shooting death of a high school athlete and honor roll student in Gardena, authorities said.
Marcos Medina, 20, was charged June 3 with murder and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
Medina also faces gang and gun allegations. The juvenile suspect is facing a murder charge, police said.
Medina has not yet entered a plea; he is due back in court June 25, prosecutors said.
Police declined to say how the suspects were identified, citing the pending court case.

Joseph Gilbert Solano, a 50-year-old Latino deputy for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, died Wednesday, June 12, after he was shot in the 2500 block of West Valley Boulevard in Alhambra, according to sheriff's investigators.
Solano got off work about 5 p.m. Monday, June 10, put on his civilian clothes and then ran an errand for his mother, taking her car to a Jiffy Lube to get the oil changed, The Times reported.
