Samantha Bustos Vital, a 15-year-old Latina, was pronounced dead on Monday, March 25, after her body was found in the 500 block of West Victoria Street in Compton, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner records. 

Samantha, a student at New Designs Charter School in Willowbrook, went out with friends on Friday, March 22, and never returned home, according to family members.

Her mother, Blanca Bautista de Cuevas, told NBCLA  and CBS2 television that Samantha said she was sleeping over at her best friend's house, and the friend told her family she was staying at Samantha's house. Instead, the girls apparently went to a party, unusual behavior for her daughter, she said. 

"She was really good," Bautista de Cuevas told reporters. "She didn't even go out to parties, until that day."

Fred Contreras Jr., a 49-year-old Latino male, died Monday, March 25, after sustaining blunt force trauma near 1525 N. Alvarado St. in Echo Park, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

Samuel Crenshaw, a 60-year-old Black male, died Sunday, March 24, after being stabbed near Bradley & Paxton streets in Pacoima, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

Brandon Arvie Paris Lott, a 31-year-old black male, died Sunday, March 24, after being shot at UNK, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

Frank Noel "Chito" Galvan, a 34-year-old Latino, was fatally shot on Saturday, March 23, near the corner of 95th and Juniper Streets in the Florence-Firestone area of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner records. 

Galvan was walking in his neighborhood around 2:40 p.m. when  he was shot, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Rodney Moore. 

Deputies were called to the scene regarding a gunshot victim and found Galvan with a gunshot wound, Moore said. 

Galvan was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:12 p.m., according to coroner's records. The cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the torso. 

Investigators don't have any information about the gunman or a motive for the shooting, Moore said. 

An online fundraiser has been started "to help bring some peace" to Galvan's parents and siblings, according to the webpage.

Robert Arthur Fausto, a 63-year-old Latino male, died Thursday, March 21, after being shot in Pomona, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

Davien Shawn Oatez, a 45-year-old black male, died Wednesday, March 20, after being shot at 3900 block of South Western Avenue, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

David De Jesus Rios, a 27-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Wednesday, March 20, in the 700 block of North Fickett Street in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s records.

About 1:05 a.m., Rios and a friend went to the area, said Los Angeles Police Det. Jose Ramirez.

Rios got out of the car they were riding in and was talking to another person who came up to him when he was shot, police said. It’s unknown who walked up to Rios and shot him. Rios was not involved with gangs, police said.

Rios was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:50 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Lawrence Calvin George, a 41-year-old black male, died Saturday, March 16, after being stabbed in Lancaster, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

Gerardo Macias Hernandez, a 22-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, March 16, in the 2800 block of East Alondra Boulevard in Compton, according to Los Angeles County medical-examiner coroner’s records.

About 11:30 p.m., Macias Hernandez was the passenger in a Chevy Tahoe that had pulled into a strip mall when three other vehicles drove slowly toward them, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Hoglund.

A person shot at Macias Hernandez from a dark-colored sedan then sped off, Hoglund said.

Macias Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:56 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Investigators called the attack “totally unprovoked.”

“We don’t know why this happened,” Hoglund said.

Macias Hernandez and his family had just assisted the victims of a car accident down the street and had pulled into the strip mall to complete a U-turn to get gas.
