Allen Thomas, a 17-year-old black youth, was shot and killed Saturday, March 16 in the 1200 block of West 57th Street in Vermont-Slauson, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s records.
Shortly after 9 p.m., Allen was standing in a driveway with another person when a light-colored sedan driving east on West 57th Street stopped and a person inside the vehicle began shooting, said Los Angeles Police Det. Dave Garrido.
Allen was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:56 p.m., according to coroner’s records. The person standing with Thomas was not injured, authorities said.

Jarick Wayne Henderson, a 31-year-old black male, died Saturday, March 16, after sustaining blunt force trauma in Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.
Adolfo Amador, a 14-year-old Latino teenager, died Thursday, March 14, after he was shot in the 300 block of North St. Louis Street in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s records.
About 11:45 a.m. on March 13, Adolfo was standing on the sidewalk when a person approached him, said Los Angeles Police Det. Jose Ramirez. The two engaged in a brief conversation, then the person pulled out a gun and shot Adolfo, police said.
Police said the dispute was related to gangs.
Adolfo was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:23 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
The suspected shooter was identified as Juan Garcia, a 21-year-old Latino, police said.
Garcia was charged March 19 with one count of murder with a gun and with gang allegations, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Steven Lopez was well known around the tight-knit Mid-City neighborhood where he grew up. Neighbors knew the struggles he endured.
When Lopez was 7, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He had surgery to remove the tumor, but it came back. He had surgery again.
His family thought he was finally in the clear. But last March, Lopez was shot and killed near his home in the 4700 block of West 17th Street in Mid-City.
On Tuesday, authorities asked for the public’s help in solving the case and publicized a $50,000 reward for information in the killing.
His mother, Flavia Lopez, spoke through tears near the spot where her son collapsed and later died.

Jamie Renee Baker, a 32-year-old black woman, was shot and killed Tuesday, March 12 in the 100 block of West 109th Street in Broadway-Manchester, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s records.
Officers responded to a call about 8 p.m. the night before from one of Baker’s relatives, who was concerned for her safety inside a residence, said LAPD Det. Meghan Aguilar, a spokeswoman for the department.
When police arrived, a car was blocking the driveway and officers struggled to make contact with the people in the home. A SWAT team arrived about 10 p.m. after officers determined that a man inside the home was armed and had barricaded himself, Aguilar said.
Police eventually used a robot to enter the home early the next morning and found Baker dead inside the home, she said.
Baker was pronounced dead at the scene at 3 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Miguel Ernesto Guardado Jr., a 42-year-old Latino, was found dead Monday, March 11, in the 25600 block of Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, according to Los Angeles County medical examiner-coroner’s records.
Shortly after 2 p.m., deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call about a dead body and found Guardado on the beach, unresponsive, according to a news release from the department.
Guardado was pronounced dead at 2:15 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
At first, foul play was not suspected, but after an autopsy, the death was ruled a homicide by the coroner's office. Guardado had been shot in the upper torso. The department did not release additional information about the killing.
Claudia Navarro, Guardado’s cousin, said he was a caring man who was like a “big brother” to her.

Jason Elliot Hodges, a 41-year-old black man, was fatally stabbed Monday, March 11, in the 700 block of South Pacific Avenue in San Pedro, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s records.
Shortly before 10 p.m., Hodges got into an argument inside a business, where he was stabbed multiple times, said Los Angeles Police Officer Jeffrey Tiffin.
A friend tried to take Hodges to the hospital, but the car broke down near the back of the facility. Hodges was pronounced dead inside the car at 10:02 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
The assailant fled. It’s unknown what the dispute was over, but detectives are looking for witnesses.

Victory McElhaney, a 21-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, March 10, in the 200 block of East Adams Boulevard in Historic South-Central, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 12:30 a.m., McElhaney and eight friends walked from a nearby home to a strip mall liquor store in the area, said Los Angeles police Capt. Billy Hayes.
After buying alcohol, the group was approached in the parking lot by three or four men. The men attempted to mug the group, and McElhaney was shot after likely objecting to the robbery, Hayes said.
The muggers fled in a car and no one else was hurt. McElhaney was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:12 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Daniel Heredia, a 32-year-old Latino male, died Sunday, March 10, after being shot in East Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.
Kalease Raymond Patterson, a 19-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, March 10, near East 113th and Grape streets in Watts, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 4:30 p.m., Patterson driving a car with a friend north on Grape Street when another car pulled up and a person in the car began firing bullets at the two, said Los Angeles police Det. Nathan Kouri.
The car, described as a dark-colored sedan, fled on East 113th Street and out of view, police said.
Patterson was pronounced dead at 4:45 p.m. at the scene, according to coroner’s records.
Neither Patterson nor the other man in the car were gang members. The motive remains unknown.
Family members said that Patterson was a man who was just discovering the value of hard work. He had to be on his way to work by 4:15 a.m. on most weekdays.
