Marcos España, a 45-year-old Latino, was found with blunt force trauma Tuesday, Jan. 23, near the northbound off-ramp to Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 7:30 a.m., España was discovered face down by a contractor clearing brush for the California Department of Transportation, according to police and coroner’s records.

España, who was found with blunt head trauma, was pronounced dead at 8:16 a.m. at the scene, according to coroner’s records.

It’s unclear whether España was staying in the area or just passing through, said Los Angeles Police Det. John Lamberti.

Police are looking for any witnesses to the incident.

Update: The Los Angeles County Medical-Examiner Coroner’s office has changed the mode of this death. It has not been ruled a homicide.

Penelope Charlene Jeffries, a 67-year-old white female, died Monday, Jan. 22.

Terry Gibson, a 30-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, Jan. 21, near West 30th Street and Chesapeake Avenue in West Adams, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Shortly before 11 a.m., officers from the Los Angeles Police Department's Southwest Division responded to a call of a shooting, said Det. Dave Garrido.

Officers arrived to the aftermath of a car accident involving a red four-door Ford Fusion and a parked white van. When officers walked up to the red car, they saw a man, later identified as Gibson, unconscious in the driver's seat, Garrido said.

Paramedics pronounced Gibson, of Palmdale, dead at the scene at 11:14 a.m., according to coroner's records.

Investigators believe that Gibson was driving the red Ford with a passenger when they were shot at. The passenger fled from the scene, but police don't believe that he or she was the shooter.

Daniel Duarte, a 31-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, Jan. 21, near the 110 Freeway between Avenue 52 and Via Marisol in Highland Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Duarte and another man were in a makeshift tent in a homeless encampment near the 110 Freeway along the Arroyo Seco riverbed when two men walked in at 4:40 a.m. and asked, “Where are you from?” said Los Angeles Police Det. Jose Ramirez.

When Duarte and the other man said they weren’t from anywhere, one of the intruders pulled a gun and shot the two homeless men, Ramirez said. 

The other man, whom residents heard screaming, ran from the encampment to get help, Ramirez said. Duarte was declared dead at the scene.

Two men whom police have identified as gang members were arrested on suspicion of murder in the killing, police said.

Franklin Pon-Ros, a 3-year-old boy of Cambodian-Laotian descent, died on Saturday, Jan. 20, after he was shot in the 2800 block of West Alondra Boulevard in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Franklin was in the back seat of a car when his mother and her boyfriend stopped in the parking lot of Nate’s Liquor Mart at West Alondra Boulevard and South McKinley Avenue about 7:40 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza. 

The boyfriend walked into the store briefly, passing another man standing at the counter, according to surveillance video made public on KTLA5 and other networks this week. The men saw each other but did not speak in the store, Mendoza said. 

The man at the counter left and walked to his car, which was parked near the door. The boyfriend left the store a few minutes later, and as he walked by the …

Gustavo Campos Gutierrez, a 20-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Saturday, Jan. 20, in the 12700 block of South Main Street in the Willowbrook area of South Los Angeles, according to Lops Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Gutierrez was driving south on South Main Street about 7 p.m. when he pulled over to the curb just south of East 127th Street, about a half block north of a Jack in the Box restaurant that was his intended destination, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza.

It’s not clear why Gutierrez pulled over, Mendoza said, but as soon as he stopped, a Latino adult standing on the sidewalk began shooting into the car. 

Gutierrez was struck by gunfire. His passenger, a male juvenile family member, was not injured. 

The passenger called 911 and Gutierrez drove a few blocks south, to 135th Street, where he stopped and got help from paramedics and law …

Brittneeh Williams, a 24-year-old black woman, was fatally stabbed Friday, Jan. 19, at 1350 W. Florence Ave. in Vermont-Slauson, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Williams was at a gas station in South Los Angeles shortly after 10:30 p.m. when she got into an argument with the father of her child, Los Angeles Police Det. Dave Garrido said.

While the two were arguing, another woman got out of a car and stabbed Williams, Garrido said.

Williams was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 11:20 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

The suspect was identified as Jasmine Jenkins, a 24-year-old black woman, Garrido said.

Jenkins fled to Virginia after the attack, but was extradited back to Los Angeles, police said.

Jenkins has been charged with one count of murder, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office. She is due back in court April 25.

Oscar Eliu Marquez, a 23-year-old Latino male, died Thursday, Jan. 18, after being shot in Historic South-Central, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Daniel Jessie Lara III, a 20-year-old Latino male, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, after being shot in Norwalk, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Jeremiah Chester, a 36-year-old black man, was shot and killed Tuesday, Jan. 16, near Pierce Street and Dronfield Avenue in Pacoima, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Chester was outside a house and drinking with others shortly before 2 a.m. when a black sedan drove up, Los Angeles Police Det. Gabe Bucknell said.

A person fired a gun from the sedan, striking Chester, then sped away, Bucknell said. The shooter and victim did not speak to each other, police said.

Chester was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:32 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Chester was not a gang member, although he was hanging out around a residence known for gang activity, Bucknell said.
