Joie Nicole Kinney, a 28-year-old white woman, was found dead Wednesday, July 6, 2016, in the 8700 block of Beverly Boulevard in the Beverly Grove area of West Hollywood, according to authorities. 

Kinney’s body was found in a dumpster at 11:57 a.m. in a parking lot, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Eddie Hernandez. The lot is across the street from the entrance to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. 

Abdulla Tario Camran, a 29-year-old white man who had a “dating relationship” with Kinney, was arrested July 19, 2016, on a Los Angeles County Superior Court warrant charging him with murder, Hernandez said.  

Investigators initially put a security hold on the case, meaning the coroner cannot reveal any details about how Kinney died.

Juan Andres Barillas, a 37-year-old Latino male, died Thursday, Nov. 30, after being shot in North Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Antonio Maurice Wilson, a 27-year-old black man, died Thursday, Nov. 30, after being shot near West 43rd Street and South Vermont Avenue in Vermont Square earlier in the month, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly after 6 p.m. Nov. 14, Wilson was walking alone to a store when a vehicle approached and he was shot multiple times, Los Angeles Police Det. Dave Garrido said.

Authorities found Wilson in a parking lot, according to coroner’s records. He was taken to a hospital, where he died more than two weeks later, at 6:38 p.m. Nov. 30, according to coroner’s records.

Police are working on a vehicle description.

Giovanni Miguel Cisneros, a 19-year-old Latino male, died Thursday, Nov. 30, after being shot in Westlake, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

John Haig Marshall, a 61-year-old white male, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, in Redondo Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Christian Chavez Avelar, a 40-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by police on Monday, Nov. 27, in the 2700 block of Illinois Avenue in South Gate, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

The previous day, Avelar hit his live-in girlfriend with a handgun and ran away, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza said. 

The assault sent his girlfriend to the hospital, Mendoza said, and South Gate Police officers got a warrant for Avelar’s arrest. The following evening, the girlfriend returned home and called police, saying she thought Avelar was in the area. 

Officers spotted Avelar sitting inside his parked truck around 7:30 p.m. in the 2700 block of Illinois Avenue, a few blocks from his home, Mendoza said. 

Footage of the standoff and shooting from ABC7 News shows that Avelar was parked next to the playground of Stanford Avenue Elementary School.

Cristian Aldair Lainez, a 23-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Sunday, Nov. 26, in the 6700 block of Reseda Boulevard in Reseda, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Lainez and a male friend went to Melody’s Mexican Kitchen to buy food that afternoon, LAPD Valley Homicide Det. David Peteque said. The two men brought their food out to Lainez’s car, Peteque said, and while they were sitting in the parking lot, another car pulled in behind them.

A person got out of the newcomer’s car, walked up to the driver’s side of Lainez’s car and began shooting, Peteque said. 

Lainez, who was sitting in the driver’s seat, was struck by gunfire. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:55 p.m., according to coroner’s records. 

His friend was not injured, Peteque said. 

Investigators think Lainez, a Reseda resident, was targeted for the shooting, but they don’t have a motive.

Daniel Navarro Jr., a 22-year-old Latino male, died Sunday, Nov. 26, after being shot in Covina, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

David Ibarra, a 19-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Friday, Nov. 24, in the 11700 block of Bromont Avenue in Pacoima, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Ibarra had been visiting friends and was walking toward Hubert H. Humphrey Recreation Center, a park where he frequently hung out, when a car pulled alongside him around 6 p.m., said Los Angeles Police Department Valley Homicide Bureau Det. Dave Peteque.

It appears Ibarra tried to run away, but the car chased him and he was shot numerous times, Peteque said.

Ibarra collapsed on the sidewalk and was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:05 p.m., according to coroner’s records. 

Investigators think Ibarra was targeted in the attack, but they don’t know why, Peteque said.

“We know that’s a gang area, but there’s no indication he was a member of a gang,” the detective said. “He was just hanging out.”

Miguel Angel Castillo-Vega, a 49-year-old Latino, was found dead Friday, Nov. 24, in the 200 block of South Alexandria Avenue in Koreatown, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 9:30 a.m., one of Castillo-Vega’s roommates found his body in the apartment they shared, said Los Angeles Police Det. John Lamberti.

Castillo-Vega was pronounced dead at 9:55 a.m. at the scene, according to coroner’s records. Records show that Castillo-Vega died from blunt head trauma.

Detectives believe that the previous evening, Castillo-Vega was hanging out at a bar and went to grab more beer from a local gas station with another man, Lamberti said.

The two then went back to Castillo-Vega’s apartment. It remains unclear what happened inside the apartment, Lamberti said. He declined to say what type of weapon was used in the attack.

Julian Elijah Boston, a 24-year-old black man, was fatally shot on Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, in the alley behind West 104th Street in the Westmont area of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Boston was sitting alone in his cousin’s car, which was parked in the alley behind his aunt’s house, around 2:50 p.m. the day after Thanksgiving, said Los Angeles County sheriff’s Det. Ray Lugo. 

Another car drove down the alley with three people inside, and someone in the car began shooting at Boston, striking him multiple times, Lugo said. 

Boston was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:55 p.m., according to coroner’s records. The cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the head.

Carlos Guzman Sanchez, a 50-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Thursday, Nov. 23, in the 8000 block of Emerson Place in Rosemead, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Sanchez had just parked in front of his home on Emerson Place and was walking up his driveway around 6:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day when a man stepped forward and shot him, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Derrick Alfred said.

Investigators think the shooter had been waiting for Sanchez, Alfred said. 

Sanchez was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:39 p.m., according to coroner’s records. 

The following day, Zhongqiang Meng, a 27-year-old Chinese national who lived in Rosemead, turned himself in to the Monterey Park Police Department, Alfred said. 

Meng had been identified by investigators as a likely suspect in Sanchez’s death. He had sold a dog to Sanchez, Alfred said, and claimed that Sanchez still owed him money.

Steven Luong Tang, a 26-year-old Asian man, was shot and killed Thursday, Nov. 23, in the 14200 block of Gager Street in Arleta, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Tang had been released from prison two weeks earlier and was visiting his mother for Thanksgiving, said LAPD Valley Homicide Det. David Peteque. 

He and his family had eaten Thanksgiving dinner at a relative’s home in Whittier and had returned to his mother’s home around 8 p.m., Peteque said. While his mother and another family member were in one part of the house, Tang went to the rear of the house around 8:15 p.m., where he was confronted by someone, Peteque said.

Estuardo Ruben Velasquez, a 34-year-old Latino male, died Thursday, Nov. 23, after sustaining blunt force trauma in Sun Valley, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Robert Padilla, a 30-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Wednesday, Nov. 22, in the 1900 block of Sichel Street in Lincoln Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Padilla was standing in front of a home talking with some friends about 7:50 p.m. when a white car drove by, Los Angeles Police Det. Jose Ramirez said.

A person inside the car fired several gunshots, Ramirez said, striking Padilla.

Padilla was pronounced dead at the scene at 8 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Padilla had relatives in the area, Ramirez said. A GoFundMe page set up after his killing described Padilla as a father of two children, ages 5 and 11.
