Christopher Lamont Shuler Jr., a 24-year-old black man, was shot and killed Friday, Sept. 15, in the 2300 block of South Cochran Avenue in Mid-City, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shuler was with a group of people drinking in the street when a dispute broke out about 11 p.m., Los Angeles Police Lt. John Radtke said.
A person in the group pulled out a gun and shot Shuler, Radtke said.
Shuler was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:15 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
James Sheppard, a 30-year-old black man, was arrested on suspicion of murder Sept. 18 in connection with the shooting, according to online jail records.
Sheppard was charged with one count of murder with an allegation that he used a handgun to commit the crime, and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office. …
Daniel Guillermo Zuniga, an 18-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Friday, Sept. 15, in the 300 block of Gulf Avenue in Wilmington, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Zuniga left his house about 11:35 a.m. and was walking north on Gulf Avenue to meet a friend and grab some food, Los Angeles Police Det. David Cortez said.
Police think two people — both wearing dark clothing — jumped out of a vehicle and chased Zuniga, shooting him multiple times, Cortez said.
Zuniga was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:45 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
The shooters got back into a vehicle, possibly a dark SUV, and drove away, Cortez said.

Deshaun Anthony White, a 37-year-old black man, died Thursday, Sept. 14, after he was stabbed in the 5900 block of Holmes Avenue in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
White was found lying on the sidewalk outside his home about 6:50 a.m. in the short residential block across from the Lillian Street Elementary School, according to coroner’s records.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene when paramedics “observed trauma to his body,” said Lt. Rodney Moore.
White was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:05 a.m., according to coroner’s records. The cause of death was listed as a stab wound to the chest.
Investigators don’t have any suspect information, Moore said.

Steven Lynell Gantt, a 56-year-old black male, died Thursday, Sept. 14, in Green Meadows, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Ontario Jermaine Courtney, a 40-year-old black man, was shot and killed Wednesday, Sept. 13, in the 5000 block of South Hoover Street in the Broadway-Manchester area of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Courtney was sitting in a burgundy SUV with two other people shortly after arriving in the area around 4:30 a.m. when another car pulled up and someone inside the vehicle shot him multiple times, Los Angeles Police Det. Chris Barling said.
Police, who were nearby, heard the gunshots, Barling said. They pursued the suspect vehicle, which crashed near West 67th Street and South Broadway.
Five people, including two minors, were taken into custody after the shooting, Barling said.
One of the juveniles appeared to have accidentally shot himself during the attack and was hospitalized but is expected to survive, police said.
Courtney was taken to a hospital, where he died at 9:08 a.m., according to coroner’s …
Philip Osby, a 59-year-old black man, was shot and killed Tuesday, Sept. 12, in the 2600 block of West Vernon Avenue in Leimert Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Osby was in an alley near his car about 2 a.m. when he was shot, Los Angeles Police Det. Dave Garrido said.
It’s unclear why Osby was in the area, or what he was doing near his car, Garrido said.
Osby was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:06 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
Police think that Osby’s car, a 2016 black Hyundai Accent, was stolen during the shooting. The vehicle’s license plate number is 7TYD871, and it had paper plates with the letters “WIN.”
There may have been an Uber sticker on the front and rear windows of the car, although Osby hadn’t driven for the company recently because his account was suspended, police said.

Sandra Del Carmen Polanco, a 54-year-old Latina, was shot and killed Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, in the 11700 block of Floral Drive in Whittier, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
At about 7:30 a.m., Whittier police responded to a call about a woman who was unresponsive at an apartment complex, according to Whittier Police Officer John Scoggins.
Officers arrived and found Polanco on the living room couch with a gunshot wound to the head, authorities said.
Polanco was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:30 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
Police identified Polanco’s boyfriend of more than 10 years, Rafael Ayala Castillo, a 58-year-old Latino, as a person of interest in the killing.
The two lived together in the apartment where Polanco was found, police said. Later that night, police arrested Castillo on suspicion of murder and he was later charged in the killing.

Ricardo Bonerges Morales-Mejia, a 52-year-old Latino, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, after he was shot in the 15800 block of Leadwell Street in Van Nuys, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
On Sept. 11, Morales-Mejia was working as a handyman at a Van Nuys residence, Los Angeles Police Det. James Fillmore said.
Police said Morales-Mejia left the property after allowing a recently evicted tenant into the home to grab his belongings. Morales-Mejia came back about 4 p.m. to lock up, and the evicted tenant and an accomplice lured him inside with expensive vodka and shot him, Fillmore said.
The assailants panicked, then stole Morales-Mejia’s truck, Fillmore said.
Morales-Mejia was found the next day inside the home, police said.
Craig Roscoe Price, a 40-year-old white man, had been evicted from the residence the first week of September, Fillmore said.

Dmorea Jovon Tyrece Robins, a 20-year-old black man, was shot and killed Tuesday, Sept. 12, in the 9600 block of South Wall Street in Broadway-Manchester, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 2:40 p.m., Robins and another person were sitting inside a Ford Mustang when another car pulled up and began firing, said Los Angeles Police Det. Nate Kouri.
The other person jumped into a car and drove in search of medical help, flagging down police nearby, Kouri said.
Robins was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:55 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Police are still working on a description of the shooter's vehicle, Kouri said.

Vincent Edward Hernandez Jr., a 39-year-old Latino, died Monday, Sept. 11, after he was shot by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies in the 1200 block of Stichman Avenue in the West Puente Valley community of Bassett, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Members of Hernandez’s family called deputies about 4:40 p.m. saying he was using narcotics and creating a disturbance, said Sheriff's Lt. Rodney Moore.
Deputies tried to talk to Hernandez, but he had locked himself in a bedroom, Moore said. Hernandez ignored deputies’ orders that he leave the room, and instead climbed out the bedroom window into the backyard, Moore said.
Two deputies confronted Hernandez in the backyard, Moore said, and saw that he was holding what looked like two guns, a rifle in one hand and a handgun in the other.

William Escamilla, a 16-year-old Latino, died Monday, Sept. 11, after he was stabbed in the 11900 block of Long Beach Boulevard in Lynwood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
William was in a parking lot behind the Free Dry Coin Laundry at 11904 Long Beach Boulevard when he was attacked about 4 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
A few minutes earlier, William had been washing clothes inside the laundromat with his mother, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Marcelo Quintero. He went outside to get a bottle of water from their car and was confronted by a man on a bicycle.
“We think the motive was robbery,” Quintero said. “There’s no indication these people knew each other. This man confronted him and ended up cutting him on the left side of his neck.”

Miranda Lauren Walton, a 26-year-old Latina, was shot and killed Sunday, Sept. 10, in the 5900 block of Pepperwood Avenue in Lakewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Residents called 911 at 3:27 p.m. to report that a woman was screaming for the police, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Derrick Alfred said.
When deputies arrived, they found Walton and her husband, Austin Wesley McQuade, inside the residence, both with gunshot wounds to the head, Alfred said. The woman screaming for help was Walton’s mother, who lived with the couple and had been away during the day, he said.
Both Walton and McQuade, a 27-year-old white man, were pronounced dead at the scene at 3:52 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Walton’s death was ruled a homicide, according to coroner’s records.

Enrique Dominguez-Rodriguez, a 45-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, Sept. 10 in the 2000 block of West Venice Boulevard in Harvard Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 10:15 p.m., Dominguez-Rodriguez and another man had just left a bar and were driving when Dominguez-Rodriguez “cat-called” a woman standing on the corner of Venice Boulevard and Normandie Avenue, said Los Angeles Police Lt. John Radtke.
There was an exchange of words between Dominguez-Rodriguez and some men who were with the woman, and Dominguez-Rodriguez’s vehicle pulled into a strip mall nearby, Radtke said.
Dominguez-Rodriguez got out of the car and exchanged words with another man, who pulled out a gun and shot him, Radtke said.
Dominguez-Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:22 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
