Lexington Elliot Brandon, an 8-month-old black baby, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, in the 3200 block of Flower Street in Lynwood, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigators. 

Lexington's maternal grandmother called 911 about 4:53 p.m. after she walked into the kitchen where her daughter was giving the baby a bath, Lt. Mike Rosson said. 

“The mother was holding the baby in her arms, and the baby appeared to be in great distress,” Rosson said. “He was looking dead.”

Paramedics took the unresponsive baby to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:45 p.m., according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

The coroner’s office has not listed a formal cause of death, pending toxicology results and other tests, Rosson said. However, he said, there is evidence the baby drowned in a small plastic bathtub in the kitchen.

Michael Thompson, a 47-year-old black man, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, after being fatally shot weeks earlier in the 1800 block of Long Beach Boulevard in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

About 10 a.m. Oct. 9, Long Beach police responded to a call about gunshots, according to a news release. Officers found Thompson with several wounds to his chest.

Thompson was taken to a hospital, where he died of his wounds at 2:29 a.m. Nov. 1, according to coroner's records. 

On Nov. 9, officers arrested Justin White, 27, on suspicion of murder in Thompson's killing, the release said. White was charged Nov. 15 with five felony counts, including  murder, two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a controlled substance with a firearm, and drug possession. 

White is scheduled to return to court Nov. 30 for arraignment.

Michelle Lee Shirley, a 39-year-old black woman, was shot to death by a Torrance police officer Monday, Oct. 31, near the intersection of Sepulveda Boulevard and Cabrillo Avenue in Torrance, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

About 2:28 p.m., Torrance officers received a multiple calls about a reckless driver, according to a news release. Callers said a Ford Fusion,had collision damage and that the side airbags had deployed, the release said. 

Once police spotted the car, officers boxed it in, according the news release. As the driver tried to get away, officers opened fire on the car, striking the driver, who was later identified as Shirley, the release said. 

Shirley, of San Diego, was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead at 3:05 p.m., according to coroner's records.

Jose Armando Cueva, a 55-year-old Latino male, died Monday, Oct. 31, after being shot in Chatsworth, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Cesar Alvarado Lemus, a 22-year-old Latino, died Monday, Oct. 31, after he was shot at the corner of Gerhart Avenue and Repetto Avenue in East Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Lemus was walking in the residential neighborhood with two other men about 7:30 p.m., in an area where many other people were out on the street because of Halloween, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Det. Theo Baljet. 

As the men were walking south on Gerhart, a small, gray compact vehicle drove up behind them and someone inside began shooting, Baljet said. 

Lemus was struck by gunfire and ran about two blocks, to the 500 block of Williamson Street, where he collapsed, Baljet said. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:28 p.m., according to coroner’s records. 

His two companions ran away and have not been found, Baljet said. However, investigators …

Ruby Vasquez, a 3-year-old Latina, was fatally stabbed Monday, Oct. 31, in the 800 block of McGarry Street in downtown L.A., according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 5 p.m., the child, who was at a garment factory where her parents work, went to give her father a cookie, according to Los Angeles County prosecutors.

Ruby was seen running with a man close behind who stabbed the child, police and prosecutors said.

The child’s mother flagged down an ambulance, said Los Angeles Police Capt. Jorge Rodriguez. Ruby was taken to a hospital where she died.

Witnesses told police that man accused of being the attacker -- authorities identified Ricardo Augusto Utuy, a 34-year-old Latino, as the suspect in the killing -- would sometimes talk and laugh to himself, Rodriguez said.

“He would do certain things that would lead them to believe he was not all there,” Rodriguez said.

Manuel Alvarado-Hernandez, a 25-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Monday, Oct. 31, in the 1800 block of West 81st Street in Manchester Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 3 a.m., Alavarado-Hernandez was driving home from visiting a friend when he pulled over to the side of the West 81st Street, said Los Angeles Police Det. Chris Barling.

A dark-colored SUV drove by and shot into Alvarado-Hernandez’s car, Barling said.

Alvarado-Hernandez was found with gunshot wounds inside his light-colored Honda Civic, police said.

Alvarado-Hernandez was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:39 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Alvarado-Hernandez was not a gang member, and police are unsure of the motive in the killing, Barling said.

Jerry Levell Penn Jr., a 27-year-old black male, died Sunday, Oct. 30, after being shot in Lancaster, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Devon Lamar Jelkes, a 28-year-old black man, was fatally beaten Sunday, Oct. 30, in the 1600 block of North Cahuenga Boulevard in Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 2:30 a.m., police responded to calls of a fight as nightclubs were closing, said Officer Aareon Jefferson, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department.

Witnesses said that after a nightclub closed for the evening and a crowd milled about on the sidewalk, there was a dispute, according to a news release issued by the LAPD.

Prosecutors said a man punched a woman as she tried to get into a car. Her brother, Jelkes, was running toward his sister when he was attacked by the first man and another man. 

Jelkes suffered blunt force trauma and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:15 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Marquis Lamar Thomas, a 22-year-old black man, died Sunday, Oct. 30, after he was shot in the 11000 block of South Broadway in Broadway-Manchester, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

On Oct. 29, shortly after 9:30 a.m., Thomas was walking southbound on South Broadway to a relative's home when a man walked up and shot him, said Los Angeles Police Det. Nathan Kouri.

Thomas was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:38 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

The gunman remained at large last week.

Victor Ernesto Garcia-Navarro, a 22-year-old Latino male, died Saturday, Oct. 29, after being stabbed in Pacoima, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

Deondre Hamilton, a 22-year-old black man, was fatally shot Saturday, Oct. 29, in the 8800 block of South Hoover Street in Vermont Vista, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 4 a.m., Hamilton was being dropped off near his home when a vehicle drove by and a person inside began shooting, said Los Angeles Police Det. Nathan Kouri.

Only Hamilton was struck by the gunfire, Kouri said.

Hamilton was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:37 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Police believe the gunman's vehicle was a dark-colored sedan.
