Ruben Alberto Morales-Almada, a 24-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, July 20, in the 9500 block of Holmes Avenue in Watts, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Morales and another person were sitting in the front yard of a home at 1 p.m., when a sedan drove by, said Los Angeles police Det. Nathan Kouri.
The sedan drove by again from the opposite direction and a person shot from inside the car, Kouri said. The sedan continued south.
Both Morales and the other person, a 27-year-old man, were wounded. Both were taken to a hospital. Holmes was pronounced dead at 1:58 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Hakop Mouradian, a 34-year-old white male, died Monday, July 20, after being shot near Beswick & Calzona streets in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.
Sherry Ann Thomas, a 49-year-old white woman, was found dead Saturday, July 18, in the 5200 block of Colodny Drive in Agoura Hills, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
At 11:27 a.m., deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to a home to perform a welfare check, according to a news release.
When deputies entered the home, they found Thomas and a 57-year-old man with gunshot wounds. Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:51 a.m.
The man was identified as John Mann. His death was ruled a suicide, according to records from the coroner’s office. A gun was recovered at the scene.
Los Angeles sheriff’s Lt. Charles Calderaro said that the killing appears to be a murder-suicide. Calderaro said that Thomas and Mann were in an on-again-off-again dating relationship that “might have recently ended.”

Jose Eduardo Hernandez, a 21-year-old Latino, was fatally stabbed Saturday, July 18, in the 9200 block of South Graham Avenue in Watts, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s records.
At 7:35 p.m., Hernandez went to meet his stepfather in an apartment, said Los Angeles Police Det. Nathan Kouri. A dispute broke out in the apartment and Hernandez was stabbed. It’s unclear what the disagreement was about.
Hernandez died at the scene.
The stepfather fled and police are still trying to determine his whereabouts.

For Daniel Delgado’s 20th birthday, he had planned a low-key road trip with friends to bask in the Arizona sun.
But eight days earlier, on July 5, Delgado was gunned down while driving a friend home from a small Fourth of July celebration. Instead, friends and family gathered at his Wilmington home on the day he would have turned 20 to mourn him.
There was a chocolate cake, and at one point, everyone sang "Happy Birthday." People wore red, his favorite color, as they released red and white balloons with messages to the slain 19-year-old.
“He was just a young kid, enjoying life, enjoying the Fourth of July,” said his aunt Gabby Banales.

Alberto Armenta-Sanchez, a 22-year-old Latino, died Wednesday, July 15, after he was shot in the 300 block of East Phillips Boulevard in Pomona, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Shortly before 11 p.m. on July 14, officers from the Pomona Police Department received a call of a shooting and found Armenta-Sanchez in the street, wounded from gunfire, according to a news release from the department.
Armenta-Sanchez was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:06 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
Police said they’re working to determine why Armenta-Sanchez was shot.
