Fernando Zamorano, a 33-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, Aug. 13, in the 6000 block of East Olympic Boulevard in East Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Zamorano was standing in the parking lot of Lito’s Corkroom around 1 a.m. when two Latinos walked by on the sidewalk, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Jauch.
Coroner’s records said Zamorano asked the men where they were from, but Jauch said he couldn’t confirm any conversation.
“We just know that two male Hispanics walked by him heading east and one of them produced a handgun and opened fire,” Jauch said.
Witnesses told investigators that the men were last seen running north through the parking lot and out of view, Jauch said.
Zamorano was pronounced dead at the scene with a gunshot wound at 1:15 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Kenyada Thornton, a 27-year-old black man, was fatally shot Saturday, Aug. 13, in the 3300 block of West 63rd Street in Hyde Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 10:45 a.m., a man pulled up to where Thornton was standing, got out of a car and the two got into an argument, said LAPD Det. Chris Barling.
The man then pulled out a gun and shot Thornton. The person, described only as a black man, got into a dark sedan, which fled south on Crenshaw Boulevard, Barling said.
Thornton was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:14 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Andres Guzman, a 22-year-old Latino male, died Saturday, Aug. 13, after being shot in South Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Jeremiah Shaw, a 21-year-old black man, was fatally shot Saturday, Aug. 13, near West Pico Boulevard and South Orange Drive in Mid-City, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 12:40 p.m., officers near West Pico Boulevard and South Orange Drive received a call of a shooting. Nearby residents heard about six shots. Police arrived and didn’t find anything, but they eventually discovered casings in the area.
Officers from LAPD’s Southwest Division found Shaw in a silver Chrysler in the 2800 block of West 43rd Place in Leimert Park, said Lt. John Radtke with the LAPD’s West Bureau.
Police believe that Shaw was shot in Mid-City, then taken down to Leimert Park and left in the vehicle.
Shaw was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:22 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Elena Lillian "Lily" Moore, a 16-year-old Latina, was stabbed to death Friday, Aug. 12, in the 9800 block of Shade Lane in Pico Rivera, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Elena was in her downstairs bedroom about 3:15 a.m. when she was stabbed repeatedly by someone who then ran out of the house, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The girl screamed and staggered into her mother’s bedroom, where she collapsed, according to the release. Her mother called 911, but Elena was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple stab wounds at 3:38 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
Elena mentioned the name of her former boyfriend before she died, causing investigators to name him as a suspect in the case.
The 17-old-year was arrested on suspicion of murder four days later, under a railroad underpass at Rosemead Boulevard and Slauson Avenue in Pico …
Jose Manuel Melendez, a 21-year-old Latino, was shot to death Friday, Aug. 12, in the 800 block of East Michelle Street in West Covina, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
At about 10:15 p.m., West Covina police received a call about gunshots at a house party, according to a news release. Officers found Melendez in the backyard with a gunshot wound to his chest and back, according to coroner’s records. He was pronounced dead at 11 p.m. at the scene.
Another person who was struck by gunfire taken to the hospital and released, the news release said.
Police do not know the motive of the attack and said the gunshot victims do not have any gang ties, according to the release.

Michael Larry Stickles, a 42-year-old white man, died Friday, Aug. 12, after he was shot near the corner of Cedar Street and Lakewood Boulevard in Bellflower, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Stickles was found lying on the sidewalk on Cedar Street, just north of Lakewood Boulevard, the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 10, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Det. Phillip Martinez.
Deputies went to the residential area after receiving a call about gunfire, Martinez said.
Stickles was taken to a nearby hospital where he was put on life support, Martinez said. He was pronounced dead two days later at 10:57 a.m. with a gunshot wound to the head.
Witnesses told investigators they saw a black vehicle drive quickly from the scene after Stickles was shot, but no other suspect information is available, Martinez said. “We have very little on this case now.”

Dalby Perez, a 24-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Thursday, Aug. 11, at Alvarado Terrace Park near West 14th and South Bonnie Brae streets in Pico-Union, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 10:30 p.m., Perez and another man were hanging out at the park when a white sedan pulled up, said Los Angeles Police Det. Ray Martinez. A man opened fire from the front passenger side of the car, striking Perez. The other man was not injured.
Perez was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:52 p.m. according to coroner’s records.
The vehicle drove northbound on South Bonnie Brae Street and onto West Pico Boulevard, Martinez said.
Police are still trying to determine why Perez was shot. Perez was not a documented gang member, but the incident is believed to be related to gang activity.

Jesse James Romero, a 14-year-old Latino, was fatally shot by a Los Angeles Police officer Tuesday in the 2200 block of East Cesar Chavez Avenue in Boyle Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 5:35 p.m., gang officers assigned to the Hollenbeck Division received a call of two vandalism suspects involved in possible “gang writings” and narcotics activity near East Cesar Chavez Avenue and North Chicago Street, said LAPD Deputy Chief Robert Arcos.
The suspects were described as being between 14 and 16 years old, and when officers arrived, one of the youths ran east on Cesar Chavez then south onto North Breed Street.
“According to a witness, they saw the subject running from the officers. The witness saw the subject shoot a handgun in the direction of the pursuing officers,” Arcos told reporters.
As officers approached Breed Street and Cesar Chavez, they heard a gunshot, he said. …
Tiffani Nicole Doxy, a 33-year-old black woman, was found shot to death Tuesday, Aug. 9, in the 7900 block of South Van Ness Avenue in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
At 5:46 a.m., patrol officers from the Inglewood Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area and found Doxy in the car with “at least one gunshot wound,” according to a news release from the department. Doxy was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:06 a.m., according to coroner’s records. Photographs of the scene showed that Doxy was found in a silver Volvo.
KTLA reported that Doxy was found in the driver’s seat of the car. Tiiesha Lane, of Gardena, said the Volvo belongs to her and was stolen two weeks ago from outside a convenience store.
Police did not say why Doxy was in the vehicle.

Shawn Pryor, a 52-year-old black man, was fatally shot Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 3501 W. Imperial Highway in Inglewood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 3 a.m., officers from the Inglewood Police Department responded to a report of a shooting victim at the King’s Motel, according to a news release from the department.
Officers found Pryor with multiple gunshot wounds, police said.
Pryor, a Compton resident, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:49 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Michael John Rush, a 62-year-old white man, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, after he was fatally assaulted near Hollywood Boulevard and North La Brea Avenue in Hollywood, according to Los Angelese County coroner’s records.
About 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 5, officers were flagged down by people who saw Rush hitting cars with a metal flashlight, said LAPD Det. Luis Carranza.
Rush struck a black BMV SUV with a flashlight, then two black men got out of the vehicle and punched him, police said.
Rush fell and hit his head on the ground. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Carranza said.
Rush was pronounced dead four days later, on Aug. 9 at 4:24 p.m., according to coroner’s records. The coroner’s office ruled the death a homicide, records show.
Police want to speak with additional witnesses and believe more vehicles were in the area at the time of the incident. …
A gang member was sentenced Aug. 3 to 94 years to life in state prison for shooting a man to death as he stood outside of a Redondo Beach home and later writing a song about the killing, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
On June 28, after three hours of deliberations, a jury found Erik Julian Ortega, 30, guilty of first-degree murder in the killing of Bobby Darin Reynolds, 38, and of possession of a firearm. Jurors also found true gang and gun allegations.
On June 21, 2013, prosecutors said, Ortega shot Reynolds and later fled the state.
Redondo Beach police received an anonymous tip in May 2014 that Ortega, who also went by "Bones," was working in Utah. Ortega was arrested and extradited to Los Angeles. During the trial, prosecutors presented song lyrics written by Ortega that contained specific similarities to the killing of Reynolds. …
