James Lieneke, 19
James Lieneke, a 19-year-old white man, was fatally shot on Sunday, April 19 in the 11200 block of Woodruff Avenue in Downey, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Downey police officers arrived on the scene about 2:50 a.m. and found Lieneke lying on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced him dead at 3:04 a.m. at the scene.
Detectives found a surveillance video from a nearby business, which shows the crime, according to a news release. In the video, Lieneke and his friends walked northbound on Woodruff Avenue in front of a parking lot.

Mother of slain son works to help families of homicide victims
It's been nearly 20 years since LaWanda Hawkins got the call that would change her life: Her 19-year-old son, Reginald, had been found shot to death off Harbor Boulevard in San Pedro.
Within the year, she and other parents founded Justice for Murdered Children, a nonprofit that advocates for families of homicide victims.
Since then, the San Pedro woman has been to candlelight vigils, marched around the city, helped pass legislation to aid crime victims and taken phone calls in the middle of the night from those going through the pain she knows so well.
Hawkins works out of a small, one-room office near the Port of Los Angeles painted with brightly colored rainbows and butterflies. (A brother of a homicide victim had been acting up in school, so she let him paint the office, Hawkins said.)

About 3 p.m., Los Angeles police responded to numerous calls of shots fired at Woodbine Park. When officers arrived, they found three men with gunshot wounds, according to a release from the department. Police said the gunman was driving a tan sedan.

About noon on April 12, paramedics responded to call about an unconscious child at an urgent care center and reported that Josiah had shallow breathing and bruising on his body.
Paramedics took Josiah to the hospital where doctors determined that Josiah's injuries were non-accidental. Days later, Josiah was pronounced dead, according to coroner’s records.
That evening, police and doctors questioned Josiah's parents. His mother said that two weeks earlier, Josiah had fallen on his head at a park and hit a metal crate. According to the mother, the baby was taken to the hospital and released.

Jequan Jashean George Foley, 26
Jequan Jashean George Foley, a 26-year-old black man, was shot and killed Thursday April 9 in the 900 block of West 76th Street in Vermont Knolls, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 4 a.m., Foley was driving a silver sedan west on West 77th Street near South Flower Street, LAPD Det. Dave Garrido said. A person following in a dark-colored sedan pulled up to Foley’s car and opened fire. A passenger in Foley’s car was struck in the leg.
Foley was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:01 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Dispute between brothers allegedly ends with assault by car and deadly shooting
Richard Wayne Van Heyningen, a 47-year-old white man, was shot and killed Tuesday, March 31 near Hardwick Street and Fanwood Avenue in Lakewood, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
The victim was riding his bicycle on Hardwick Street when a pickup truck driven by his brother came up behind him and ran into his bicycle, causing him to fall into the street, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
After he fell, witnesses told investigators the victim walked up to the driver's side of the truck and started arguing with the driver, Brandon Van Heyningen, 44, of Lakewood.
The driver then got out and allegedly shot his older brother with a handgun.
Richard Van Heyningen was pronounced dead at 9:57 a.m. at the scene, according to the coroner’s office.

Andrew Steven Lane, a 23-year-old black man, was fatally shot Wednesday, April 15, in the 9900 block of Painter Avenue in Santa Fe Springs, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Lane was walking on Painter Avenue about 7 p.m. when he was approached by a man. The two got into an argument, according to a news release from the Whittier Police Department. The man pulled out a gun from his waist and began firing. Lane was struck in the chest and collapsed on the sidewalk.
The gunman got into the passenger side of a silver compact vehicle and fled north on Painter Avenue. The suspect was described as a male, black or Latino, and is considered “heavy set.”
Whittier police arrived shortly to the scene and pronounced Lane dead at 7:14 p.m.
