Joseph Steven Ruiz, a 23-year-old Latino, was fatally stabbed Saturday, Nov. 15, in the 21700 block of Halldale Avenue in Harbor Gateway, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 10 a.m., Ruiz got into an argument with another person. During the argument, which turned physical, a person stabbed Ruiz, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department.
Ruiz was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:38 p.m., said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.

Reginald Anthony Brown, a 50-year-old black man, was shot and killed Thursday, Nov. 13, in the 300 block of West 83rd Street in Florence, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 8:30 a.m. Brown was standing near his vehicle on West 83rd Street when a man with a rifle shot him, LAPD Det. Chris Barling said.
Barling said the gunman got into a vehicle, but he did not know what kind. Witnesses said the vehicle drove north on South Grand Avenue.
Brown was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:53 a.m., said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.

Conrad Reyes Gomez, a 26-year-old white man, was shot and killed Tuesday, Nov. 11, in the 6000 block of Fayette Street in Highland Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 9:25 p.m., police responded to a radio call of a shooting victim in the area, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department. Gomez was found in a residential driveway with gunshot wounds, said LAPD Det. Ryan Watterson in an e-mail.
Police said Gomez got into a dispute with two Latinos between the ages of 16 and 20 years old. Gomez was shot and the assailants fled. Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:05 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

The day before Halloween, Christopher Walker, 26, sat on the patio of an Altadena burger stand off Fair Oaks Avenue about 4:30 p.m.
He'd stopped on his way to pick up his 5-year-old daughter from kindergarten.
A light-colored sedan drove up. A person got out and shot at Walker multiple times. Then the shooter got back into the car and fled east on East Calaveras Street.
"No words were exchanged," said Lt. Holly Francisco with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. It was the first homicide in Altadena, where Walker grew up, since 2012.
So far, investigators are looking for witnesses, and Walker's friends and family are stunned. After a rocky childhood, his parents, Ursula and Richard Walker, thought they had their son back.
"The man who was murdered was not some street thug," his father said.

Alfonso Maldonado, an 18-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, Nov. 10, in the 9000 block of Holmes Avenue in Florence-Firestone, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
A Transit Policing Division deputy was in the area when he found Maldonado with gunshot wounds, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Maldonado was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:54 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Francisco Guadalupe Garcia, a 21-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, Nov. 9, in the 13200 block of Dronfield Avenue in Sylmar, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 2 a.m., Garcia was leaving a party and standing on the sidewalk with other people when two cars stopped, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A Latino man got out of a dark-colored SUV, smashed a beer bottle on the ground and yelled at Garcia. The man then walked to a white sedan that was behind the SUV, got a gun and began shooting, police said.
Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:30 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Jaymee Rashaud Bandy, a 23-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, Nov. 9, in the 1600 block of East 118th Place in Willowbrook, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 2 a.m., Bandy was standing outside the Willow Brook Green Apartment complex when he was shot, said Lt. Eddie Hernandez with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.
Several people were standing in the area when the shooting occurred, but no one stayed to talk to authorities, Hernandez said.
Bandy was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:10 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
“We have very little to go on unless somebody comes forward,” Hernandez said.

Jorge Trejo, a 34-year-old Latino, was shot by Los Angeles police Sunday, Nov. 9, in the 3200 block of Huron Street in Cypress Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before midnight on Nov. 8, LAPD officers saw Trejo driving a blue Mazda pickup truck near West Avenue 26 and North Figueroa Street, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department. Officers tried to stop Trejo, a suspect in an Oct. 30 assault with a deadly weapon case, and a pursuit began.
During the pursuit, which authorities said was "slow-speed," Trejo stopped at at least three locations and pointed a sawed-off shotgun at police. The first shooting occurred at West Avenue 26 and Lacy Street. The second occurred at Griffin Avenue and East Avenue 31. The third shooting occurred at Daly Street and Darwin Avenue, police said.

Josue Narciso Fuentes, a 22-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by police officers Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, in the area of Victory Boulevard and Haskell Avenue in Van Nuys, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Fuentes was shot when he refused to drop a knife he had been using on himself, and “became aggressive” toward an officer, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department.
His parents, Maria Del Carmen Rivas and Jose Diaz, are contesting the police narrative in a $15-million lawsuit they filed Jan. 22 in U.S. District Court. The suit accuses the city of Los Angeles, the LAPD and the two officers involved in the shooting, Officer II Abdias Velasco and Officer II Cesar Gutierrez, of wrongful death, negligence, using excessive force and conspiracy to violate Fuentes’ civil rights.
