Franceen Michelle Camarillo, a 25-year-old Latina, was fatally stabbed Friday, Oct. 17, in the 1200 block of West 36th Place in Exposition Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 8 p.m., Camarillo and a man were in her vehicle driving westbound on West 36th Place when the two pulled to the curb, said LAPD Det. Dave Garrido.
Camarillo was stabbed, then pushed out the driver’s side door, Garrido said.
Camarillo was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 8:55 p.m., said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the coroner's office.
Police arrested Lester Isac Nolasco, a 23-year-old Latino, on suspicion of murder that night. Nolasco was charged with one count each of murder, arson, carjacking and battery, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Latoya Denise Franklin, a 25-year-old black woman, was shot and killed Friday, Oct. 17, in the 6400 block of South Vermont Avenue in Vermont-Slauson, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Franklin was standing on a corner shortly before 5:30 p.m. when two men walked up to her and shot her, said LAPD Det Miguel Gutierrez.
Franklin was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 6:20 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
The men fled on foot northbound on South Vermont Avenue, Gutierrez said.

Joseph Roosevelt Penn, a 26-year-old black male, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, after being shot in Broadway-Manchester, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Jose L. Figueroa, a 19-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Tuesday, Oct. 14, in the 8500 block of Flower Street in Paramount.
Shortly after 10:30 p.m., deputies arrived to find Figueroa wounded in the street between two parked cars, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Figueroa was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:55 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Witnesses told deputies that two male Latinos between the ages of 18 and 28 years old were seen walking toward Figueroa shortly before the shooting.

Edward Gabriel Mendoza, a 35-year-old Latino, was fatally stabbed Tuesday, Oct. 14, in the 1700 block of Potrero Grande Drive in South San Gabriel, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Police arrived in the area shortly after 9 p.m. and found Mendoza, who had been stabbed, in the parking lot of a business complex, according to a news release from the department.
Mendoza was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:11 p.m., said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.

Tristian Devon Johnson, a 22-year-old black man, was fatally shot Tuesday, Oct. 14, in the 2200 block of Eighth Avenue in Arlington Heights, according to police and Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Johnson was walking down the street about 9 p.m. when a person shot him, said LAPD Officer Jane Kim. The shooter was described as a black man between 18 and 20 who was wearing a black hoodie. Police believe he left the scene in a blue Jeep Cherokee.
Johnson was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:20 p.m., said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.

Jorge Lopez, a 35-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Tuesday, Oct. 14, in the 12700 block of Branford Street in Pacoima, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Lopez was shot about 12:20 a.m., said LAPD Officer Jane Kim. Police said that two men, described as male Latino, walked up to him and shot him.
Lopez was pronounced dead at 2 a.m. at a hospital, according to coroner’s records.
Local media reported that Lopez was visiting family at an apartment complex.
Yolonde Tassin replays the last day she spent with her daughter. Her 23-year-old had plans to hang out with friends in the evening but wanted her mother’s advice on what to wear.
They settled on a pair of blue jeans, matching sneakers and a white shirt Tassin had given her.
As the young woman walked out the front door that summer day last year, Tassin told her that she loved her.“I love you more, Mommy,” she remembers her daughter saying.

Larry Bressler, a 50-year-old white man, was fatally stabbed Monday, Oct. 13, in the 200 block of North Madison Avenue in Pasadena, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
After being stabbed, Bressler called 911 about 6:20 a.m., said Lt. Tracy Ibarra, spokeswoman for the Pasadena Police Department. Officers and paramedics who arrived at the scene found Bressler and his wife, 64-year-old Denise Bressler, with stab wounds.
Detectives found a knife in the apartment where the stabbing took place. About a block away, police found Jacob Mallory Bersson, 29, covered in blood. Bersson, who was implicated in the 911 call, is a cousin of Larry Bressler, police said.
Police do not know a motive behind the attack.

Esli Garay, a 22-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, Oct. 12, in the 14600 block of Novice Street in Panorama City, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About noon, Garay was shot as he stepped out of a tan or gold SUV, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department. Police said that Garay was shot by another person who was in the SUV, which was driven by a Latina and had a child’s car seat in the back. It is possible that Garay knew the assailants.
The shooter is described as a Latino man in his 20s who has a medium build, short hair or shaved head. He could have been wearing blue jeans and a green shirt.
“It seems the victim had no idea what was happening,” said Lt. Paul Vernon in a statement.

Donald Chapman, a 28-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, Oct. 12, in the 8100 block of South Avalon Boulevard in Florence, according to coroner’s records.
About 12:21 p.m. two people were driving in a vehicle near the intersection of East 81st Street and South Avalon Boulevard when a person got out of the vehicle, approached Chapman and shot him, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A group of people in the area chased the man as he ran away. The group waited for police to take the man into custody. Others saw the vehicle and identified the driver. The people who apprehended the man left the scene before giving statements.
