Samuel Cuevas (2016-05-15)

Samuel Cuevas, a 46-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Sunday, May 15, in the 8000 block of Langdon Avenue in Van Nuys, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly after 4 a.m., officers from the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon and found Cuevas wounded on the front porch of a home, according to a news release from the department.

Police determined that Cuevas was walking east on Chase Street and passed a group drinking in front of an apartment complex. The group “exchanged words” with Cuevas, then chased him, police said.

Eventually, the assailants caught up with Cuevas, and he was shot. The attackers, described as Latinos in their early 20s, ran west on Chase Street. A Latina was also presumed to be with the group, who was last seen getting into a black Lincoln Town Car.

Cuevas was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:11 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
