About 10:50 p.m., Sanchez was riding his bike west on West 224th Street when a vehicle, possibly a light-colored four-door sedan, pulled up and a person inside opened fire, according to Los Angeles Police Officer Jeffrey Tiffin. The vehicle fled the scene, Tiffin said.

Detectives said Sanchez lived in the area but that it was unclear where he was headed on his bicycle.

Police are still trying to determine the motive.
