Keyante Markee Matthews, 29

Keyante Matthews, a 29-year-old black man, was fatally shot Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, near 56th Street and Towne Avenue in South Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Police in the area responded when they heard a gunshot about 10:00 p.m. and found Matthews on the ground, officials said.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. According to coroner's records, Matthews was shot in the chest.

The victim may have been walking on the street at the time of the shooting, which appears to be gang-related, Det. K. Baitx said.

Keyante wass good man , dam i miss you bro its been 10 years going on 11 since you been gone man . i remember the night when it happened. You was in Jail for a good minute we was writing to each other on how we was gonna both get jobs and work to save money. I remember the day you got out i seen you gave you a hug and that was it . That same day you called me and put me on Hold and said " dont hang up foo " and i did. I left to mexico the next day , two days after my bro calls me at 11 pm and told me you were gone... shit broke my heart man... i should of never gone to mexico maybe you would of still been here man... i should of never hanged up that phone to see what you wanted from me... i miss you bro and will always take you with me in my heart brother..
