Carlos Torres, a 39-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by Los Angeles police Monday, Aug. 19, near Branford Street and Arleta Avenue in Arleta, according to Los Angeles County medical examiner-coroner’s records.
The incident began at 4:19 p.m., when officers from the LAPD’s Mission Division responded to a call of a family dispute in the 13100 block of Ottoman Street.
When officers arrived they were directed by the person who called police to Torres, who was on the front porch, according to a statement from the LAPD.
Officers tried to speak with Torres, who stepped back into the house as he removed a gun from his waistband. He removed his gun and fired at the officers, who fired back, police said.
Torres then went into the house and was seen running through a neighboring yard and onto Ottoman Street. As Torres continued to run, police fired again at him. …
Steven Luong Tang, a 26-year-old Asian man, was shot and killed Thursday, Nov. 23, in the 14200 block of Gager Street in Arleta, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Tang had been released from prison two weeks earlier and was visiting his mother for Thanksgiving, said LAPD Valley Homicide Det. David Peteque.
He and his family had eaten Thanksgiving dinner at a relative’s home in Whittier and had returned to his mother’s home around 8 p.m., Peteque said. While his mother and another family member were in one part of the house, Tang went to the rear of the house around 8:15 p.m., where he was confronted by someone, Peteque said.

Angel Maciel, a 28-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, Oct. 29, in the 9900 block of Stanwin Avenue in Arleta, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Maciel was riding a skateboard south on Stanwin Avenue about 3:40 p.m. when a car pulled up alongside him and someone inside began shooting, Los Angeles Police Det. Ryan Verna said.
Maciel was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:13 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Police think the suspect or suspects fled in a small, four-door, green car.

Neftaly Chavez, a 53-year-old Latino male, died Monday, April 10, after sustaining blunt force trauma in Arleta, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Daniel Guzman Gurrola, a 41-year-old Latino, died after he was shot Sunday, Aug. 30, in the 8700 block of Woodman Avenue in Arleta, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 11:15 p.m., Gurrola was standing outside an Internet café when several people approached him, said LAPD Det. Juan Santa. Gurrola got into an argument with the group, and one of the men pulled out a gun and shot him, Santa said. The men then fled in a vehicle.
It’s unknown how many people were involved in the argument, but police said it is at least two.
Gurrola was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:50 p.m. An autopsy found the Gurrola died from blunt force and gunshot wounds.

Edgar Adolfo Barrientos, a 37-year-old Latino, was fatally stabbed Sunday, Dec. 21, near Beachy Avenue and Tonopah Street in Arleta, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 4 a.m., people in the area reported a disturbance, said Lt. Paul Vernon of the Los Angeles Police Department.
“One description was that someone was doing doughnuts in the street, screeching tires,” Vernon said. “But no one called police right away.”
Two residents went out to investigate and discovered another neighbor riding in the car with the two other men, police said.
When the residents confronted the car’s occupants, the driver began stabbing Barrientos with a knife while the other two people in the car assisted in the attack, police said.
Barrientos was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:40 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Richard Eduardo Ruiz, a 22-year-old Latino, was fatally wounded Saturday, July 13, in the 13000 block of Branford Street on the border of Arleta, according to L.A. County coroner’s records.
Ruiz was driving a red Kia just after 3 p.m. under the 5 Freeway on Branford Avenue when a single shot came from the male driver of a gray Dodge Challenger as it passed on the right, according to a Los Angeles Police Department news release.
Ruiz, of North Hollywood, was taken to a hospital where he died at 4:55 p.m., according to coroner’s records. Two other people in Ruiz’s vehicle were not injured.
The gunman is described as a green-eyed Latino in his early 20s, according to a release from the Los Angeles Police Department.
The Dodge Challenger is an RT model with custom rims, according to the release.

Nestor Porfilio Hernandez, a 34-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Monday, July 8, in the 8900 block of Woodman Avenue in Panorama City, according to L.A. County coroner’s records.
Hernandez was believed to have been closing his shop, which he had owned since February, his wife told authorities. According to witnesses, Hernandez was confronted by a man on the sidewalk in front of the store about 8:40 p.m., LAPD spokeswoman Norma Eisenman said.
Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:45 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Marco Hernandez, a 31-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Sunday, Dec. 19, in the 9100 block of Canterbury Avenue in Arleta, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
After a three-hour standoff at a Long Beach hotel, Antonio Meza, a 58-year-old Latino, was arrested Monday in connection with Hernandez's death.
Meza barricaded himself inside a room at the Luxury Inn as police evacuated part of the hotel and negotiated with him to come out peacefully, said Officer Sara Faden of the Los Angeles Police Department. He surrendered about 9:20 a.m. after SWAT officers fired less-than-lethal rounds at him.
He is suspected of killing a Hernandez, a relative, about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, officials said.
Meza was being held in lieu of $1-million bail, according to county jail records.

Edgar Serrato, a 31-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, June 14, in the 13500 block of Wingo Avenue in Arleta, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire and a person on the ground about 8:30 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department said.
When police arrived, they found Serrato suffering from a gunshot wound to the head, said Officer Karen Rayner.
She said that no suspects had been apprehended.
The shooting appeared to be gang-related, police said.
No additional details were available.

Diego Frausto, a 21-year-old Latino, died Thursday, May 27, a day after he was shot in the 8900 block of Greenbush Avenue in Arleta, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Frausto was at a residence about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday when he got into an altercation and was shot, said LAPD Det. Gene Parshall of the Mission Division.
Authorities were called and Frausto was taken by paramedics to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, where he died at 4:52 a.m. Thursday, according to coroner's records.
Witnesses to the altercation described the shooter as a Latino, 19 to 22-years old, Parshall said.
Parshall said with the investigation pending he was unable to provide additional details.
