Jonathan Angel Rodriguez, a 25-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, Oct. 31, in the 11900 block of 168th Street in Artesia, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.
About 11:46 p.m., deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to the area regarding a call about a gunshot victim, according to a news release from the department.
Deputies discovered two people, including Rodriguez, with gunshot wounds. Both Rodriguez and the juvenile were taken to a hospital, where Rodriguez was pronounced dead. The juvenile is expected to survive.
Authorities said that detectives are processing the scene and are looking for witnesses.

Christian David Silva, a 28-year-old Latino, died Saturday, Feb. 22, after he was shot near the intersection of 167th Street and Clarkdale Avenue in Artesia, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner records.
Silva, a tattoo artist from La Habra, had been visiting a friend's home in Artesia the evening of Feb. 21, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Barry Hall.
He was driving home alone shortly after midnight when someone on the sidewalk fired into his car, Hall said. The gunfire struck Silva in the head, causing him to lose control of his car, which crashed into a fence at the intersection, Hall said.
Silva was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead the following afternoon at 2:22 p.m., according to coroner's records. The cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the head.
Investigators don't have a description of the shooter, Hall said. Silva was not involved …
Bryan Anthony Mares, a 23-year-old Latino, was fatally shot on Saturday, March 9, in the 11800 block of Arkansas Street in Artesia, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner records.
Four people, allegedly documented gang members from Norwalk, were arrested later that evening in connection with Mares' death and another non-fatal shooting earlier that evening just a few blocks away, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Derrick Alfred.
Mares, a homeless man who had been staying in the Artesia area, was walking on Arkansas Street near Pioneer Boulevard about 9:44 p.m. when a dark-colored sedan drove by and someone inside began shooting, Alfred said.
The gunfire struck Mares, who ran up a driveway and tried to hide behind a parked vehicle before he fell, Alfred said. Someone spotted Mares lying by the car and called 911.

Frank Dario Lopez, a 48-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy on Sunday, Dec. 10, in the 11900 block of Droxford Street in Artesia, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were called to the residential neighborhood shortly after 9 p.m. regarding a man in an SUV looking into parked vehicles, said Lt. Joe Mendoza. Callers said the man was driving erratically and was parking his car on the lawn of a house.
The man eventually parked his car in a vacant lot and walked into the neighborhood, Mendoza said. A deputy searching for the suspicious person found Lopez hiding behind trash cans between two houses, he said.
The deputy asked Lopez to come out, Mendoza said, “and he became uncooperative. He approached the deputy and physically attacked him. The deputy was alone at that time and called for assistance.”

Yizhu Mu, a 36-year-old Asian woman, was found dead Friday, Sept. 29, in the 16900 block of Pioneer Boulevard in Artesia, according to Los Angeles County sheriff’s investigators.
Mu had a San Gabriel address, according to Lt. Derrick Alfred, but she had been staying at the Excelsior Hotel, also known as the Artesia Inn and Suites, for at least a week.
A hotel maid discovered Mu’s body about 10:50 a.m. on the bed in the room, officials said. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 11 a.m., Alfred said.
Early reports indicated that Mu had been strangled, but investigators put a security hold on her autopsy results so an exact cause of death won’t be available until the investigation is finished, Alfred said.
“It’s definitely a homicide,” the lieutenant said. “The signs of trauma lead us to believe it wasn’t a natural death.”

Carlos Jimenez, a 38-year-old Latino, was shot and killed on Thursday, Jan. 26, in the 11900 block of 167th Street in Artesia, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Jimenez had gotten home from work shortly after midnight and was outside the boarding house where he lived, sharing a beer with a friend, said Sgt. Marcelo Quintero.
Residents told investigators they heard the sound of a car driving, then the sound of gunfire. No one saw the vehicle, Quintero said, but after it passed, Jimenez and his friend had gunshot wounds.
Jimenez was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:25 a.m. He had been shot in the neck. His friend was treated at a nearby hospital for a gunshot wound to the arm, Quintero said.
Neither Jimenez nor his friend had any gang involvement, Quintero said, and investigators have no motive for the shooting.

Angel Aurelio Soto, a 17-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Saturday, July 16, in the 18000 block of Alburtis Avenue in Artesia, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Angel's family once lived in Lynwood but moved to Moreno Valley "to get away from the violence in L.A.," said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Det. Eddie Aguirre.
Angel had returned to L.A. for the weekend to visit friends and his baby daughter, Aguirre said.
Saturday night, Angel attended a party on Alburtis Avenue with about 30 other people, Aguirre said.
About 10 p.m., four Latinos between the ages of 18 and 22 crashed the party, and a fight ensued, he said. During the fight, one of the interlopers pulled out a gun and fired four shots, Aguirre said.
Angel was struck in the chest and pronounced dead at the scene at 10:35 p.m., according to coroner's records.

Richard Arthur Tafoya, a 30-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, May 15, in the 11800 block of Ashworth Street in Artesia, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Tafoya was walking about a block from his home around 7:38 p.m. when he was shot, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. John Corina. Deputies found Tafoya lying in the driveway of a home.
Paramedics took Tafoya to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:37 p.m., with a gunshot wound to the head, according to coroner’s records.
Investigators have no information about the shooter or a motive, Corina said.
“We have no witnesses who saw the shooting,” he said. “We just got reports that gunshots were heard, and then a report about a gunshot victim."

Dawn Frances McEveety, a 19-year-old Latina, was found dead from shotgun wounds on Sunday, Nov. 29, in the 8600 block of Bradwell Avenue in the West Whittier-Los Nietos area, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Investigators were called to the scene when residents in the quiet neighborhood reported an abandoned vehicle. When deputies came to investigate about 1:10 p.m., they could smell the odor of a decomposing body inside, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Dave Coleman.
Deputies found a large ice chest in the rear cargo area of the car, Coleman said, and when they opened it up, they found McEveety's 5-foot-1 body inside.
McEveety was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:20 p.m. with multiple gunshot wounds, according to coroner's records.

Witnesses said they were in their homes when they heard four or five gunshots, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. People came outside, found Lopez in his driveway and called deputies about 1:10 a.m.
No suspects or vehicles were seen leaving the area. Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:37 a.m.

Timothy James Teopaco, a 19-year-old Filipino American, was shot and killed Saturday, July 27, in the 11600 block of South Street in Artesia, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Teopaco’s friends were inside a restaurant when a person walked up to one of the men in the group and started an argument, said Det. Brandt House with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
A friend called Teopaco by phone to ask for help, and when Teopaco arrived shortly after 1 a.m., the gunman and others were leaving the parking lot, House said in an email.
As the group was driving away, a person inside the car shot Teopaco. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
