Joseph Alfonso Lopez, a 15-year-old Latino, died Monday, Jan. 6, after he was shot in the 5700 block of Fayette Street in Highland Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
About 7:55 p.m., officers from the Los Angeles Police Department's Northeast Division responded to a call of a shooting in the area and found Joseph with a gunshot wound, according to an LAPD news release.
Joseph, who lived in the area, was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:10 p.m., according to coroner's records.
Police identified the suspect as Archi Chavez, a 19-year-old Latino.
Chavez was charged Jan. 15 with one count of murder with the allegation that he used a gun, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.
Chavez is due back in court March 24.

Edgar Franquez, a 36-year-old Latino, died Thursday, Aug. 22, after he was shot in the 5000 block of Fayette Street in Highland Park, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s records.
About 9:18 p.m. on Aug. 21, Franquez was in his backyard when he was approached by a person who shot him, said Los Angeles Police Det. Ryan Watterson. Officers responded to a shooting call at the home.
Franquez was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:53 a.m. Aug. 22, according to coroner’s records.
Police are trying to determine if the assailant fled on foot or in a vehicle. At this point, police have not released a motive.

Daniel Duarte, a 31-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, Jan. 21, near the 110 Freeway between Avenue 52 and Via Marisol in Highland Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Duarte and another man were in a makeshift tent in a homeless encampment near the 110 Freeway along the Arroyo Seco riverbed when two men walked in at 4:40 a.m. and asked, “Where are you from?” said Los Angeles Police Det. Jose Ramirez.
When Duarte and the other man said they weren’t from anywhere, one of the intruders pulled a gun and shot the two homeless men, Ramirez said.
The other man, whom residents heard screaming, ran from the encampment to get help, Ramirez said. Duarte was declared dead at the scene.
Two men whom police have identified as gang members were arrested on suspicion of murder in the killing, police said.

Raul Alexander Jimenez-Calderon, a 19-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Wednesday, April 5, in San Pascual Park near San Pascual Avenue and Comet Street in Highland Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 8:55 p.m., Jimenez-Calderon and his girlfriend were sitting at a picnic table when two people approached them and opened fire, said Ed Winter, assistant chief of operations for the coroner's office.
Jimenez-Calderon was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:12 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
Police told The Times that two gunmen were seen running from the park. Police told KABC-TV that the suspects were wearing bandannas. Authorities said Jimenez-Calderon's girlfriend, who was not injured, called police after he was shot.
