Josephine Reyes, a 65-year-old Latina, was fatally stabbed Tuesday, May 5, in the 1700 block of Alisar Avenue in Monterey Park, according to Los Angeles County medical examiner-coroner's records.
At about 10:45 a.m., a man called 911 to say he had just killed someone, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which was assisting with the investigation.
Officers from the Monterey Park Police Department arrived at the scene and found a man standing outside a home with his hands up. He was taken into custody.
Officers went inside the home and found Reyes with stab wounds. Reyes was pronounced dead at the scene at 11 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
The officers recovered two knives. Authorities said the man who called 911 was the victim's son. It was not clear what prompted the stabbing.

Michael Anthony Villar, a 26-year-old Latino, was fatally stabbed Saturday, June 10, in the 1200 block of College View Drive in Monterey Park, according to to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 12:30 a.m., Villar and two other men got into an argument over a parking space outside an apartment complex, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Rodney Moore.
The argument escalated to a physical fight, Moore said, and Villar was stabbed multiple times.
Villar was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:19 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Saieed Stecoo Ivey, a 20-year-old black man, was shot and killed Thursday, June 9, in the 800 block of El Repetto Drive in Monterey Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly after 4 a.m., officers from the Monterey Park Police Department found Ivey in a locked Mercedes-Benz with a single gunshot wound, authorities said.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigators said that night that Ivey was celebrating his 20th birthday with friends and had returned to his apartment to hang out. Ivey asked for the keys to the Mercedes and went downstairs.
Moments later, residents reported hearing arguing and gunfire.
Ivey was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:11 a.m., according to coroner’s records.
Investigators are looking for more people to come forward and said June 20 that they are sifting through cellphone evidence.

Edward Gabriel Mendoza, a 35-year-old Latino, was fatally stabbed Tuesday, Oct. 14, in the 1700 block of Potrero Grande Drive in South San Gabriel, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Police arrived in the area shortly after 9 p.m. and found Mendoza, who had been stabbed, in the parking lot of a business complex, according to a news release from the department.
Mendoza was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:11 p.m., said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.

Kedong Yang, a 51-year-old Asian man, was killed Wednesday, March 5, in the 500 block of North Florence Avenue in Monterey Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Officers from the Monterey Park Police Department went to a home about 3:40 a.m. regarding a disturbance between roommates, said Lt. Holly Francisco with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which is handling the homicide investigation.
Yang was found unconscious on the ground, and was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:10 a.m., according to coroner’s records. He died of multiple traumatic injuries, including being kicked in the head, according to coroner’s records.

Patrick Ortega, a 25-year-old Latino, was fatally stabbed Saturday, Oct. 6, in the 1900 block of South Atlantic Boulevard in Monterey Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Police say Ortega was eating at Shakey’s restaurant about 7 p.m. following a Pop Warner football game. While there, he got into an argument with Jose De Jesus Ruiz, 24.
The argument turned into a physical fight when, prosecutors say, Ruiz stabbed Ortega. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, Ruiz was arrested and charged with one count of murder with a deadly weapon. If convicted, he faces 26 years to life in prison.
