Carmelo Pizarro Jr., a 22-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies on Thursday, July 19, in the 7100 block of Pico Vista Road in Pico Rivera, according to Lt. Joe Mendoza.
Pizarro was shot after crashing his car and running from deputies, Mendoza said, and authorities say he was initially armed but threw down his gun during a foot chase.
Deputies suspected Pizarro was driving drunk when they first spotted his Mitsubishi Eclipse at Washington and Passons boulevards at 1:37 a.m., Mendoza said. They tried to pull him over but Pizarro sped away, he said, and deputies pursued. Blocks away, Pizarro crashed into a light post and parked vehicle at Eglise Avenue and Bert Street.
Pizarro got out of his car, Mendoza said, “and fled on foot, armed with a handgun.”

Manuel Arthur-Joel Jacobo, a 22-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Thursday, June 28, in the 7100 block of Pico Vista Road in Pico Rivera, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Deputies were called to the scene at 9:27 p.m. after residents heard gunfire and found Jacobo lying unconscious in the street, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza.
Jacobo was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:45 p.m., according to coroner’s records. The cause of death was listed as multiple gunshot wounds.
No witnesses reported seeing the shooting, Mendoza said, and investigators don’t have a description of the suspect, or know whether the shooter was on foot or in a vehicle.

Ernie Bebe Perez a 21-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday Jan. 28, in the 4700 block of Durfee Avenue in Pico Rivera, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene at 7:54 p.m. regarding a gunshot victim, said Lt. Rodney Moore. They found Perez lying in the street with a gunshot wound, Moore said.
Perez was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:08 p.m., according to coroner’s records. The cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the torso.

Rudy Sebastian Garcia, a 22-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Wednesday, Jan. 11, in the 4200 block of Acacia Avenue in Pico Rivera, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Garcia and a male friend were standing near the friend’s car in the middle of the street about 12:47 a.m. when an “unknown figure” approached, pulled out a gun and shot Garcia in the upper body, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sgt. Bill Cotter.
Garcia ran a short distance before collapsing, Cotter said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:54 a.m. with multiple gunshot wounds, according to coroner’s records.
Investigators don’t have any information about the suspect or a possible motive, Cotter said.

Zhonghua Li, a 48-year-old Chinese man, died on Saturday, Dec. 24, after he was shot by deputies in the 3400 block of Greenglade Avenue in Pico Rivera, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Deputies were called to Li's residence about 4:45 p.m., according to L.A. County Sheriff’s Lt. Steve Jauch.
Family members had called 911 to report that Li had a history of mental illness and was arguing with family members and attacking them with a sharp object, Jauch said.

Casas and 70 to 80 other people were at a Halloween party at a residence, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Victor Lewandowski said.

Raymond Anthony Zabala III, a 35-year-old Latino, was fatally stabbed Tuesday, June 2 in the 8400 block of Buhman Avenue in Pico Rivera, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly after 4:30 p.m., Zabala, a contractor working for AAA, had just helped a woman jump-start her car and was talking to her in the street when a man suddenly walked up and stabbed him, said Lt. Dave Coleman with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Zabala had been called to the location by the woman, who was a AAA member.
