Victor Luis Figueroa, a 47-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Wednesday, Aug. 29, in the 8000 block of Garvey Avenue in Rosemead, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy was driving west on Garvey Avenue about 11 p.m. when he heard gunshots ahead of him, said Lt. Joe Mendoza.
The deputy drove toward the gunshots and found Figueroa lying on the sidewalk outside a trailer park, Mendoza said.
Figueroa had been visiting at the trailer park earlier in the evening and was leaving with a female acquaintance when the shooting occurred, Mendoza said.
Figueroa's friend told investigators that she heard gunshots and when she turned around she saw a man running west on Garvey Avenue, Mendoza said. She was unable to provide any further description of the gunman, he said.
Figueroa was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:09 p.m., according to coroner’s records. …
Carlos Guzman Sanchez, a 50-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Thursday, Nov. 23, in the 8000 block of Emerson Place in Rosemead, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Sanchez had just parked in front of his home on Emerson Place and was walking up his driveway around 6:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day when a man stepped forward and shot him, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Derrick Alfred said.
Investigators think the shooter had been waiting for Sanchez, Alfred said.
Sanchez was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:39 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
The following day, Zhongqiang Meng, a 27-year-old Chinese national who lived in Rosemead, turned himself in to the Monterey Park Police Department, Alfred said.
Meng had been identified by investigators as a likely suspect in Sanchez’s death. He had sold a dog to Sanchez, Alfred said, and claimed that Sanchez still owed him money.

Bobby Joe Salazar, a 30-year-old Latino, died Wednesday, June 2, after he was shot weeks earlier at the intersection of San Gabriel Boulevard and Walnut Grove Avenue in Rosemead, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department homicide investigators.
Salazar was shot May 15 about 10:40 p.m., said Lt. Eddie Hernandez, while riding in the front passenger seat of a car driven by his friend. They were headed southbound on San Gabriel Boulevard when a second car pulled alongside them and the driver of that car got into a shouting match with Salazar and his friend.
They had some kind of "staring contest," Hernandez said, "and then it went downhill from there.”
When the cars stopped at the traffic light at Walnut Grove Avenue, the man in the other car pulled out a gun and began shooting. The gunfire struck Salazar multiple times and his friend once, Hernandez said.

Tien Phuong Hua, a 33-year-old Vietnamese man, was killed in an officer-involved shooting Tuesday, Dec. 29, in the 3500 block of Strang Avenue in Rosemead, according to Los Angeles County coroner records.
Hua was shot in the backyard of his family home as officers were trying to serve arrest and search warrants connected to the fatal shooting of Henry Xavier Estrada, a 27-year-old Latino who was killed Sunday, Dec. 27, in the Hollywood Hills.
The dispute that led to the two shootings “appears to have been a relationship issue,” LAPD West Bureau Lt. John Radtke said.
Estrada was dating Hua’s ex-girlfriend, Radtke said, and the two had gone to a rental “party house” on North Sycamore Avenue, near Camrose Drive, the night Estrada was killed. Investigators think Hua used electronic communication to trick Estrada and his girlfriend into walking out of the house, Radtke said.

Egan Ton, a 31-year-old Asian man, was shot and killed Tuesday, Sept. 15, in the 2700 block of Willard Avenue in Rosemead, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Investigators believe Ton, the married father of two young children, was killed by a long-time friend while he was standing in his driveway about 10:30 p.m.
Witnesses told Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies that an Asian man dressed all in black ran south on Willard Avenue after the shooting. When deputies found a man matching that description in the 2600 block of Willard a short time later, the man reportedly shot himself in the head.
Dick Phat Doung, 32 of San Gabriel, was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:06 p.m., nine minutes after Ton was pronounced dead in his driveway. Deputies found a semi-automatic weapon near Doung’s body, according to a department news release.

George Hang, a 17-year-old Asian teenager, was shot and killed Monday, July 27, in the 8700 block of Valley Boulevard in Rosemead, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
The investigation began about 10:10 a.m., when the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call from a woman saying she had shot her son, according to coroner’s records.
Lt. Victor Lewandowski said the mother and her son lived in a residence in the city of Rosemead but had checked into the Valley Hotel the day before the shooting. “I can’t get into the reasons why, or discuss anything about her physical or mental health,” Lewandowski said.
Investigators learned that some guests in the hotel had heard gunshots about 5 a.m. but didn’t report them, he said.

Paul Aguilar, a 21-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy Friday, Nov. 15, in the 2400 block of Earle Avenue in Rosemead, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
Family members called deputies to the home about 6 p.m. because they said that Aguilar, who lived in a detached garage in the back of the home, had been drinking alcohol and was causing a disturbance, said Lt. Eddie Hernandez with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Family members said they would try to handle the situation, and deputies determined that Aguilar hadn’t broken any laws and left. About 10 minutes later, deputies were called again by family members who stated that Aguilar broke a television, Hernandez said.
Deputies spoke to Aguilar’s brother and a 26-year-old female family member who said she would walk back to the garage to try to calm Aguilar down. …
Jazmyne Eng, a 40-year-old Asian woman, was shot and killed by sheriff's deputies Wednesday, Jan. 4, in the 9300 block of East Valley Boulevard in Rosemead, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Eng appeared to be mentally ill as she held a hammer and threatened to strike people outside a mental health clinic Wednesday afternoon.
Deputies responded to the area and attempted to talk Eng into putting down the hammer, but she did not respond to their orders, officials said.
They then tried to subdue her by stunning her with a Taser, but that did not stop her, officials said. She advanced toward the deputies, holding the hammer above her head when a deputy fired two rounds, the Sheriff's Department said.
Eng was pronounced dead at the scene. Coroner's records show she suffered gunshot wounds to her chest and left hand.

Susan Bezner, a 64-year-old white woman, was found fatally stabbed Monday, Aug. 9, in the 4200 block of Arica Avenue in Rosemead, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Sheriff's deputies found Susan Bezner and her husband, Jack, a 70-year-old white man, in their bed with multiple wounds to their upper torsos, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.
The couple's Nissan was missing. As detectives conducted their investigation, they discovered that Rodolfo Lopez, 21, and his girlfriend, the couple's 14-year-old granddaughter, allegedly stole the vehicle and were fleeing to Texas, Lt. Mike Rosson said.
The granddaughter, identified by the Los Angeles County district attorney's office as Sophia Janalisa Cristo, and Lopez were later captured in El Paso County, Texas.
The two have each been charged with two counts of murder, prosecutors said.

Alfred Beserra, a 29-year-old Latino, died Sunday, Aug. 8, in the 8500 block of Garvey Avenue in Rosemead, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
The incident occurred sometime before 10 a.m. Deputies said they arrived at the scene to find a compact car that had hit a wall and was in flames.
A man who had suffered a gunshot wound was standing outside the car.
A second man in the car's passenger seat, later identified by the coroner's office as Beserra, had also been shot. After deputies removed him from the car, he was declared dead at the scene.
According to coroner's records, Beserra suffered possible head trauma, an apparent gunshot wound to the back, as well as smoke inhalation and thermal burns.
Detectives later learned that before the wreck, a dark sports utility vehicle had been seen chasing the compact car.
