Nicholas Armando Burgos Jr., a 38-year-old Latino male, died Sunday, Nov. 1, after being shot by law enforcement near 1000 W. Carson St. in West Carson, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.
Azikiwe Christopher Onwuemelie, a 19-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, May 20, in the the 23000 block of South Livewood Lane in Harbor City, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Onwuemelie was at a gathering at a home just before 1 a.m. when someone began shooting, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Rodney Moore.
Two men, Onwuemelie and a friend, were shot, and both were taken to the hospital by friends, Moore said.
Onwuemelie was pronounced dead at the hospital at 1:30 a.m., according to coroner’s records. The cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the chest.
His friend was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the upper torso and was listed as stable, Moore said.
Investigators don’t know the motive for the shooting. The gunman was described only as a black man in his early 20s.

Aaron Joshua Holt, a 28-year-old black man, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, after he was shot on the 110 Freeway between the Sepulveda Boulevard and 223rd Street exits in West Carson, according to Los Angeles County authorities.
Holt, a single father of two, was a front-seat passenger in a car heading north on the 110 on Jan. 20, when someone began shooting into the car shortly after 7 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s homicide Det. Dean Camarillo.
Investigators believe the shooter was in another vehicle, but “this is just preliminary information,” Camarillo said, “Nothing has been confirmed. It’s not like this is your typical crime scene.”
Holt was struck multiple times in the head and neck, according to records from the L.A. County coroner’s office.
The driver took Holt to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead the following day at 3:53 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Christopher Frank Beasley, a 25-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, Sept. 25, in the 22800 block of South Van Deene Avenue in West Carson, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Beasley and his younger brother were standing on the porch outside their family’s condominium when a Latino man walked up to them around 4:15 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza.
“The suspect asked, ‘Where are you from?’” Mendoza said. “There was a brief argument, and the victim was trying to get his brother inside the door, when the suspect produced a handgun and fired a number of shots.”
Beasley was struck multiple times in the upper torso as he pushed his brother inside, Mendoza said. “It appears he actually took the rounds because he was standing in front of his brother.”

Ruben Herrera, a 26-year-old Latino, was shot and killed by Los Angeles police Saturday, Dec. 19 at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in the 1000 block of West Carson Street in Torrance, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
LAPD officials said residents of the the Harbor Gateway neighborhood called 911 about 8 a.m. to report a man throwing bottles at an apartment complex in the 1600 block of West 207th Street. The residents "tried to resolve it themselves," said Lt. John Jenal, but ultimately called police.
Officers responded to the neighborhood and tried to talk to Herrera, Jenal said. Herrera then allegedly took a "fighting stance" and attacked the officers, at one point reaching for one officer's weapon, Jenal said.
The officers used a Taser and a carotid restraint — where pressure is applied to the sides of the neck — to take the man into custody, Jenal said.

Ricardo Quintero Jr., a 40-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Tuesday, June 23, in the 1100 block of Milton Street near Torrance, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
The incident in West Carson, an unincorporated area, began about 6:08 p.m. when Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies received a call about a gunshot victim, according to Lt. John Corina.
Investigators found Quintero in the driver’s seat of his car with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:55 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Miguel Angel Anaya Jr., a 26-year-old Latino male, died Friday, Feb. 8, after being shot in West Carson, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Devin Joseph Scandore, a 22-year-old white man, was shot to death during a brawl at a punk rock concert at the Alpine Village Center in unincorporated West Carson on Jan. 20, according to authorities.
The fight initially broke out inside the German-themed venue and spilled into a parking lot about 12:25 a.m. Sunday, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department officials.
Scandore was shot, and he died of his injuries at a hospital, authorities said.
A second man was stabbed, a sheriff's statement said, and he was reported in stable condition at a hospital the day of the assault.
Investigators described the altercation as a "big fight" and said they were looking for two suspects in what were believed to be separate incidents. No suspect descriptions were immediately available, other than that both were believed to be men.

Roberto Sanchez, a 20-year-old Latino, died Sunday, April 1, a day after he was shot in the 20000 block of Catalina Street in west Carson, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said Sanchez was shot March 31 at 3:31 a.m.
He was taken to a hospital in Torrance where he died the next day at 1:10 a.m.
Winter said Sanchez died from a gunshot wound and his death was deemed a homicide.
The coroner's office has no other details about the case.
