Christopher Vargas, a 17-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Tuesday, April 28, in the 5700 block of West Manchester Boulevard in Westchester, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 8:50 p.m. Vargas and another person were in a parking lot near a market when a man approached them, pulled out a gun and shot about seven rounds at the men, said LAPD Det. Scott Masterson.
Vargas was struck multiple times and fell to the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:03 p.m., according to the coroner’s office.
The other man ran into a nearby alley. Police are attempting to interview him, Masterson said.
Detectives are searching for the gunman, who is described as Latino, tall, thin and between the ages of 18 and 25.

William Dion Carter, a 38-year-old black man, was shot and killed Wednesday, June 25, in the 5300 block of West Century Boulevard in Westchester, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
About 12:15 p.m., Carter and another man walked into Nature’s Cure, a marijuana dispensary, and shot at a security guard in an attempt to commit a robbery, said Los Angeles Police Det. Scott Masterson.
The security guard fired back, striking Carter, who then fled west on West Century Boulevard and collapsed in front of the Westin Hotel. Carter was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:40 p.m., said Ed Winter, a spokesman with the coroner’s office.

Gerardo Ismael Hernandez, a 39-year-old Latino, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, after he was shot at the Los Angeles International Airport, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Hernandez was shot at a document screening podium in Terminal 3 at point-blank range, authorities said. The gunman rode up an escalator, turned around and noticed the bleeding man squirming. He went back and fired again, authorities said, killing Hernandez. Hernandez was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11 a.m.

The shooting occurred about 6 p.m. Tilden was pronounced dead at the scene while another man, Reginald Bacot, a 44-year-old black man, died at a hospital.
Police detained a third man for questioning, but no arrests have been made, said Officer Tenesha Dobine.
The incident is being investigated as a possible robbery or burglary, Los Angeles police said.

Christian Solares Diaz, a 22-year-old Latino, died Saturday, April 28, after being shot in the 5200 block of South Centinela Avenue in Westchester, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said investigators have placed a security hold on the case and he is unable to provide any information about the killing.
