William Lay, a 31-year-old Black man, was shot and killed Monday, June 29, in the 1400 block of West 106th Street in Westmont, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.
About 10:50 p.m., Lay was driving a silver Infiniti east on West 106th Street when he encountered a dark sedan in the middle of the road, said Los Angeles Sheriff’s Det. Marc Boisvert.
The sedan forced Lay to drive around it. A person standing on the north sidewalk began shooting at Lay, who accelerated until he went unconscious. His car hit several parked vehicles.
Lay was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:17 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
It’s unclear where Lay was headed. Boisvert said that Lay was at Monster Burger hours earlier, when another shooting broke out, wounding two people, one of whom died.
