Man convicted in case of body found inside a suitcase in a Hollywood trash bin

A 22-year-old man was convicted of murder Jan. 31 in the killing of a man whose body was found stuffed into a suitcase in a trash bin in Hollywood, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

After an 11-day trial, a jury found Merdan Haydarov guilty of second-degree murder in the death of Randall Scott Kreeger, 49.

According to trial testimony, Haydarov went to Kreeger’s apartment on Nov. 23, 2013, to borrow money, and Kreeger made a romantic advance. Haydarov then killed Kreeger by cutting his neck with an unknown object.

Haydarov was arrested the next day -- police saw him driving Kreeger's vehicle.

Haydarov is scheduled to return to court Thursday for sentencing. He faces 16 years to life in state prison.
