Man convicted in Las Vegas killing is sentenced for 2008 San Gabriel shooting

A 30-year-old man was sentenced Monday to life in state prison without the possibility of parole for killing a man and shooting another in 2008, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

A jury on May 27 found Xioaye Bai guilty of two felony counts: first-degree murder for killing Zhe Li, 21, and a count of attempted murder.

On Dec. 4, 2008, Bai had an argument with several men at a San Gabriel restaurant, prosecutors said. Bai shot Li nine times, prosecutors said, and hit another person with gunfire, but that person survived.

After the shooting, Bai fled to Las Vegas, where he later stabbed several people and killed a man, according to prosecutors.

In 2012, Bai was convicted in Las Vegas of first-degree murder and several counts of attempted murder, prosecutors said. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Bai was later transferred to Los Angeles where he was prosecuted for the 2008 shooting.
