Ajay Stewart, 21

Ajay Stewart, a 21-year-old black man, was fatally shot Friday, July 20, near Anaheim Street and Ohio Avenue in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Two groups of men were near the intersection when they became involved in an altercation about 7:30 p.m., according to a Long Beach Police Department news release.

During the confrontation, one person pulled out a gun and began shooting at the other group. At that point, Stewart was shot, officials said.

He was taken to the hospital and listed in critical condition, later dying from several gunshot wounds, authorities said.

There is no description of the shooter, although the incident is being investigated as gang-related.
