A story for every victim

Alexander Alberto-Rossy Veleche, 24

Alexander Alberto-Rossy Veleche, a 24-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, Jan. 20, near South Normandie Avenue and West 3rd Street in Koreatown, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Veleche and Jonathan Villamizar, 19, were in a parking lot driveway about 2 p.m., when they walked past two men who turned around and began shooting, said LAPD Det. Mark Morgan.

Morgan did not know whether Villamizar and Veleche exchanged words with the gunman.

"There may have been words, it could have been as simple as a look," Morgan said. "We really don’t know at this point."

Veleche was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:04 p.m., said Ed Winter, a spokesman with the coroner’s office. Villamizar also died in the shooting.

The two gunmen, who are believed to be in their early 20s, were last seen running north on Normandie Avenue.
