Alexandro J. Montoya, 35

Alexandro J. Montoya (2011-01-20)

Alexandro Montoya, a 35-year-old Latino, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 12 years after he was shot near 124th  and Alameda streets in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office, said Montoya died at the Memorial Hospital of Gardena at 1:17 p.m.

At the time of his death, Montoya was a quadriplegic, Winter said. His paralysis resulted from a drive-by shooting in 1998.

It's believed Montoya died from complications from his gunshot injuries; however coroner's officials have deferred a final cause of death pending additional tests. Results will not be available for at least six to eight weeks.
