Alhambra man sentenced in killing of foster daughter

Armando Abundis Sr., 35, was sentenced July 16, 2008, to 25 years to life in state prison for killing his 2-year-old foster daughter, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

On Feb. 28, 2008, a jury convicted Abundis of involuntary manslaughter and child abuse resulting in the death of Sarah Chavez.

Sarah died Oct. 11, 2005, from multiple traumatic injuries, including a severe blow to her abdomen.

In November 2006, Abundis' wife, Frances, the child's aunt, pleaded no contest to being an accessory to Sarah's death. She was sentenced to 16 months in state prison on July 31, 2008.
