A story for every victim

Andre Jerod Lowe, 19

Andre Jerod Lowe, a 19-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, Jan. 13, when a gunman fired into a crowd outside a popular Hollywood nightclub in the 1700 block of Cahuenga Boulevard.

Police, who were called to the club about 2 a.m., said the dispute began inside the Empire Club, then spilled into the street at closing time. The club often draws long lines on weekends and typically has bouncers at the door who frisk those entering, according to website reviews of the nightspot.

Lowe was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A second man had a bloody lip from a punch and was taken to a hospital and later released, said Sgt. Mark Ro of the LAPD's Hollywood station. A woman, who possibly was a bystander, was shot in the foot.

The gunman fled before police arrived.

Robert Earl Thomas III, a 22 year-old black man, was arrested in connection with the shooting on Jan. 17. Thomas, who lives in Los Angeles, was located by members of the Las Vegas Metropolitan-FBI Fugitive Task Force.

He faces murder charges and has been held in Los Angeles County jail in lieu of more than $2 million bail since Feb. 1.
