Andre Maurice Butler, a 68-year-old Black male, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, after being stabbed near 11601 W. San Vicente Blvd. in Veterans Administration, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

So many memories of my uncle Andre but one in particular that sticks with me, I was about 8 years old, my mother had just relocated us to California so we were getting settled in and my uncle opened up his home to us. My mother had to work so she asked my uncle if he could pick me up from school. He agreed. Now my uncle had a truck but for some reason he decided to pick me up on his motorcycle 🏍...... as I walk outside from class I see him and his motorcycle and instantly began to tremble.. he hands me my helmet and tells me hop on as if I’ve done this before.. well I was raised to do as you are told so yes I hopped on. Still trembling but trying not to show fear. That was (one of) the most scariest 30 mins (really 15 but it felt like 30 lol) of my Life... traumatized me for YEARS.. until one day a few years ago I concurred my fear. I rode on the back of a motorcycle (a Harley) and I felt SO Free... it felt soo Good. I sang the whole ride. If it wasn’t for my uncle picking me up ( and that wasn’t the last time he pick me up on his motorcycle, this was often) and scaring the lights out of me I wouldn’t have been able to experience such freedom 🇺🇸 I love you Uncle Your niece Asia
